I'm not really a newbie as I joined several years ago but apparently I didn't introduce myself so here goes. I am a retired plumbing teacher and a husband, father and grandfather. I returned to biking after a 30 year lay off when in 2005 I bought a 1985 K100RT which was on the road and in good working order. This was my first 'big bike' as my previous bikes had been 50cc-250cc Hondas in the 1960s and 1970s. It was a joy to ride having ample power for my needs and plenty of storage, it was and still is very heavy though. In 2009 I added a 2002 BMW R1100S to my stable which was less comfortable with it's sportier riding position but far lighter and easier to manoeuvre when riding and parking. This became my favoured ride and my K100 RT was parked up and left unloved for 5 years. Now that I am 65 I need a more relaxed riding position and I intend to refurbish my K to it's former glory so I will soon be asking all you 'brick' experts for advice on what to do and more importantly what not to do in it's refurb.

Our local Aga engineer is a Yorkshire man of great knowledge and lots of good stories. Seems he wandered over sort of by accident too but just never went back.

Thanks to all for your words of welcome and thank you Olaf for the invitation to visit the Emerald Isle. If my restoration goes well and I don't run out of funds I may take you up on that offer in 2015.

How do I get permission to reply to items on the forum. It seems that I only have permission to post a reply on the introduction forum. Is there a brick initiation ceremony that I have to go through first?

I should have read the rule book I suppose, just assumed that once I had registered I was a member with forum access.

It has been getting very difficult to stop the spammers. You just get a handle on one thing and along comes another knuckle-head who thinks its fun to wreck someone's forum.

There is a brick initiation ceremony........one must drink Guinness in the Emerald Isle. Seems we also have a meeting place at Hotel Ch'Ti at Rouffignanc St Cernin in France, there is a forum sticker on the door there...

If you feel like a trip a few of us are looking at a camping trip August 1-8th, with what has become an annual August K meet up on Saturday 8th August at Stradbally which is about 90 minutes from Dublin ferryport......We use a nice camp site www.norevalleypark.com as its bike friendly and well located. no need to book anything.
