Just bought my first K100, 1987 RS with supposedly only 19,000km on the clock.
Not sure how you tell for sure but certainly looks like it. Don't know how to tell for sure.
Was imported from Japan a few years ago which makes sense. Older bikes with very low k's the norm over there.
Cosmetically is spot on...grips and pedal rubbers low wear, speedo dial all lines up.

Anyhow, she purs like a kitten. Was a bit shocked the first ride. Went to change up
to the next gear at 80kmh and then realised I was in 5th gear! Seems to get a bit rumbly
at 80kph / 3000 rpm but then smoothes right out. Is that pretty much standard for this bike? Open it up at 100kph and she just takes off.

Congrats, you lucky thing you.

I had an 87 K100RS SE, the only bike I'm sorry I sold.

The best advice I got was that they're not a ford escort, rev 'em like a motorbike.  Keep it spinning over 4000 and when the mood takes you, keep it up around 6000. The K engine thrives on revs.

The only time mine sees 3000 revs is on its way to 4000.

Cruising is spot on at 5000.

I find I don't go into 5th unless it is going to be a long cruise around 90kph and above.

(But then I've got a Remus race can, and that sound is addictive).

A K bike is capable of taking off in 3rd gear and going into 3 figures without changing, as corkboy said, rev it don't be lulled into dawdling around in too high a gear by its fantastic torque.

Well done on the purchase and enjoy the forum.

Welcome to the site fender22 - seems you have picked up a little gem there mate.  As the old saying goes "ride it like you stole it", they love plenty of revs and can cover the ground at a surprising rate ! However, if just bimbling around at low speeds then they have torque/power to spare, in most almost any gear you happen to find yourself in Wink

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your find and on your good taste in motorcycles!
If the peg rubbers look good and the instruments work properly, chances are the odo is telling the truth.  Of course, you'll want to have a look at the clutch splines for a more definitive answer.  My 1985 K100RS had about 22K miles on the clock when I bought it and I suspected that was not accurate.  After checking and servicing the splines I was convinced it was indeed accurate or very close to accurate. I'm a very happy K-bike owner!  I'm sure you'll feel the same as you gain familiarity with your new friend. Very Happy

Hi fender 22 !
Nice biKe, as said above it's got torque at low revs, and is great fun over 6000 RPM.
No mater what mood you are in, it handles well different riding styles.
I sure love my RT.
