Just thought I'd start a new thread to keep things simple.
The proposal is to have a brunch at Stradbally on Saturday the 28th of December at a time to be finalised nearer the date.
Transport by four wheels is optional.
Who's up for it? Are you men or mice? Squeak up!

Its nice Comberjohn put up a new post, I think an excellent idea of the four wheels too. Count me in however we get there. Looks like its on irrespective of weather now!!! The Southern Vikings vill be there!!

On four wheels or two, depending on the weather.  As long as it isn't raining, I'll probably take two - after all, that's what heated grips are for.

And gravadlax - mmmmhhhh. (although what I've eaten is probably a poor substitute for the real thing.)

RT: Rain touring.
LT: Lashing touring.
RS: Rare sunshine.

I would not want you getting false impressions, so I don't have a naked bike.

But one night after a few scoops I was up early and wanted my Sunday paper. I wasn't entirely sure about the blood alcohol and decided not to take a chance-I took my naked Decathlon bicycle instead, and found an early Sunday morning random breath test point on the way.

It regularly cycles to Crosshaven [for those who don't know, its home of the oldest yacht club in the world] along an old railway track bed, just perfect for K riders, including the more mature ones. I need a Spandex for Christmas...hint hint. Any stories about K riders in fluorescent Spandex are just rumours. Bell make nice cycle helmets too.....

Now we have at least 3 from Cork and 1 from Clough so the extremities are covered. How many can we get....??

After the photo rally van incident I'm not going to any bike event (even a breakfast) in a car or van as Olaf suggests for 28th . Not sure if you are on the rally mailing list ComberJohn, but someone sure has got caught red(van?) handed.

A red Van Veen? Rare indeed. The Age of Enlightenment hasn't reached into the deep south yet. . . .

As for 28th December and cars vans etc somewhere along the way there was a concensus that because we Eccentrics do actually enjoy each others company that we should keep 28th rather than cancel it if the weather was bad. Since its not a day for a run apart from getting to Stradbally and its just brunch it seems an excellent idea.

Won't put details on here, allegedly a van may have been used to transport a participants motorcycle and camera to one, some, or all locations. May well be a perfectly reasonable explanation, e.g disability. But how would one remove the motorcycle from the van if unable to drive? There is going to be one unmissable weekend in February '14...............

I thought this thread was looking a little lonely, with only Comberjohn's post from a month ago..

So I am refreshing it and also passing on word that on Sunday we had a bike run down here and I happened to notice a hitherto unknown 86 RT pass me by. My attempts to catch up to exchange info were in vain.

However this is relevant to another bike run the previous Sunday, when I parked outside a shop in West Cork. When I was walking in, being the gentleman us K owners are, I held the door open for two women leaving, only to hear one of them say 'ooh look, an RT'. How often would you hear that. Curiosity got the better of me as it takes a K or an RT to know an RT. Anyway it transpired that her husband has a few bikes, one being an RT. A little exchange of information revealed they lived in Cobh [Queenstown for the historians] but I didn't know anyone there with one. Anyway when she mentioned his name it transpired he was the traffic cop who came along [on the usual Honda] when my RT was hit in September.

Small world as one would say but I extended an invite to join us in Stradbally.

Transalp? I heard a rumour a K1100 had founds its way to your stable........It surely could use an outing?

Bjorn is away for Christmas but due back 26 or 27th. He wasn't sure of his work arrangements but is planning on being there.

Yep, the K1100LT is lanquishing in my dads garage since i rode it down from Dublin. It's in good nick, but needs new tyres, a battery, and a full service.


The current plan is to sell the K100RS to a mate (once he sells his bike). Then use the proceeds to fully fettle the LT (amd maybe get a UClear bluetooth intercom.)

While I like the RS a lot, I bought it in '99 and have only put about 15k miles on it. And since a lot of these were touring two-up, that role is going to the LT.  I know I spent about 800 last year on getting the seals done, battery etc. but I would prefer to see it going to a good home rather than sitting in my garage.  I use the (Honda  Wink ) Transalp for one-up spinning around the place, and the LT for two-up touring.  I just can't see a need to keep the RS.

I'm kinda in a de-clutter mode at the moment.

may be up for it too now the frosts are away for a bit...still trying to fix tank leak, figure out headlight relay & fit spot/fog light...
& now the clutch lever is getting sticky - cable or bearing? any thoughts...

If its frosty then maybe we use cars, we can say its Comberjohn's idea. It does make sense and it would be great to see you there!

Clutch lever according to my sources is more likely to be cable. My own experience of cables is that they have a defined life.

Headlight relay is something I now must do. I think you should be able to fit it inside the relay box.

If you are doing an upgrade on wattage or fitting extra spots that you want to run at the same time as main beam make sure you have sufficient wattage. I am going to fir a 160W H4, I took one from the car and tried it, result was excellent but not to be used on the standard wiring. I got ceramic bulb holders on eBay for small money and will use one in the headlight unit. I also have 2 55W driving lights in my shed, making 270w or 23amps. This would need a decent relay and wiring.

If you change the clutch cable only use a genuine one and not a spurious one. There is no comparison.

Second, for the benefit of anyone considering an upgrade, if you upgrade headlight bulb don't even think of higher wattage in the standard wiring, you have to fit a relay as 160W will burn out the handlebar switch contacts. The wiring through the switch will then only be for the current to control the relay which will be much less than 55W.

Good to see you, your silence was worrying and becoming a little concerned for your wellbeing...!!!

If we meet for say 10.30 to 11amam you get to travel in daylight and home in daylight? Last year we broke up around 1pm so everyone [almost] was home in daylight.

Sgmayhew is at Blackrock as well. Comberjohn and Markzz will be on M50 so you all pass the Red Cow interchange. My thought is arrange a meet up with Stephen to start with. I am not sure which route Ringfad and DeRodster might take, they will be travelling from Dublin side.

A few of us will meet up in Cork and Cashel. (92KK Pat O'D Bjorn Corkboy and Cluain Si). 88KE and Trapper come up from Wexford. Tom Foley is at Kilkenny.

Weather looks promising with ice unlikely.

Around 08:00 at Dunkettle, usual spot? Or slightly earlier? Later? Takes about an hour to get up to Cashel then (around 90 km).

Corkboy and Pat OD hope will meet there too. I also now know that there is another RT, 1986, in Cobh.

So far am planning two wheels. I took the RT to Dublin last Saturday and. Conditions were similar. Glad to see you back!! How was your trip. Photos can be brought tomorrow!!!

Yup, but I'm on four wheels, I ain't stoopid. Forecast is for 3C here in the morning and we had black ice here Christmas morning. Still remember driving down to Newry on St Pat's weekend when it was 0-1C Irish Eccentrics Christmas Brunch 2013 Icon_pale.
You are welcome to come down with me. Can meet up at Sprucefield or Carryduff. Its about two and a half hours drive.
