Just joined the Forum on recommendation from a fellow BMW Club member.
I don't think I've ever seen such a wealth of information on one site. It's great!
I'm restoring a 1992 K75 RT which has had a very hard life, starting with the Police and then numerous other owners for a total of 120,000 neglected miles. It was probably serviced well whilst in Police ownership but I don't think it's had much since!
Anyway, it's in many bits now, and I'm beginning to restore and reassemble parts onto the powder coated frame.
New head bearings have been fitted and I'm just rebuilding the forks with re chromed stanchions..
Loads still to do so this forum is going to be invaluable.

Welcome to the forum. Its really good you found us because you will find everything you need for the task ahead.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially any you think might be stupid ones because everyone is very very helpful and willing to share knowledge, troubleshoot, swap parts or whatever.

Why not start up a thread for it and post photos as you go. When you are done then its time to travel and meet some other fellow K riders.

My LT was an ex police bike and while I think they got well used they were generally well maintained. But being sold off cheap enough some if not many ended up neglected afterwards.

Head bearings, don't forget the damper!

Welcome Jimish,

Good luck with your project, it will be worth the effort.

You couldn't be in a better place for getting new/second hand parts - South Molton...the home of James Sherlock, I believe (I wondered if Jim i sh was a clue?). I have been very happy with the parts and service that I have got from that particular corner of the world.

Anyway, as Olaf says, we all like pictures....before and after pics are a great way to showcase your journey through to the finished product.

As you say, loads of info on the forum to help you, but if you can't find an answer then just ask...somebody, somewhere will know. Apart from that there is good banter, international friendship and some great ride reports to enjoy when you can't be out riding.

Once you have the old girl back together, then you have some great riding on your doorstep, with Wales and Ireland also within easy reach. If she's back together in time for August, and you like/don't mind/can cope with/ok if I must/ (delete as appropriate) camping, then the Irish Eccentrics are planning a week out - I'll be going across again.

Enjoy.

Welcome, Jimish. Back in '99/'00 I spent nearly a year living in an ancient stone farmhouse in Bampton, just up the road from So. Molton. It was often crap weather but we rode anyway. There are amazing roads round those parts. It's my desire to return there in the future and rip them up a bit on a K bike. I had a Yammie two stroke available to me at the time. Good memories.

Wow. Thanks for the great welcome.
There is a fluid bloc damper in the head. I was surprised to learn that it has a "special" silicone grease in it. It was in good condition so it's back in there now.
I am a lifelong BMW rider with 2 airheads as well. I'll update my profile.
Yeah, maybe I will start a thread about the 75.
Cheers,
Jim

I took the kids to Cornwall in 1999 for the total eclipse. We loved it and the drive from Pembroke in Wales down through Somerset and Devon. But there was no Eden Project then, no Lost Gardens of Heligan. Strange as it seems its easier for us Eccentrics to get to the south of France,  the drive from the ferry is shorter and quicker. But Cornwall and Devon keep cropping up over here as a trip to do. I have so many places I would love to see there, loved the roads and scenery. Born Again Eccentric is not so far from there either....

So if you are turning it into reality do keep us in the frame.....we might even manage to find you a K!!

Ta. I'd love to get back there. It's been fifteen years since my last UK visit. The same offer goes for any forum members from Europe, my mates from OZ, South America, Asia, from wherever, who require a place to stay and a K to accompany me on a ride through the amazing Cascade and Olympic Mountains of the Pacific Northwest, or down into Oregon and Northern California. Think Mt St Helens, Mt Shasta, Mt Hood, Mt Rainier, Mt Baker and Mt Adams. How about a volcano tour!? Best time of the year is late-May through early October. With some passes not open until July.

I have three (still chipping away on the 4th) registered K bikes in the garage to spare. K madness has crept in.

Pardon for hijacking your intro post, Jimish!

You're right about the wealth of information here but the forum is more than that.

If you decide to put up a thread on your restoration I for one will be a keen follower.
