Alright, so I've been going around New England looking at various K1s and I ran into a K100 that was spliced with a K1100. The owner of the bike bought it off a builder, who was putting together a track bike and stopped midway for whatever reason.

Let me preface this, I'm not a mechanic / engineer just a guy who loves all things on two wheels. From my cursory research, it looks like I could run into complications with the speedo/ECU compatibility. I've read threads where people have put K100 engines into their K1100 frames but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough for the other way around.

Could anyone either point me in the right direction, or help me put together a robust list of things I'll have to have altered/changed/replaced for this to work. Or if this is just a non-viable option and I should continue my search for a pure K100.

Thanks in advance & cheers.

Welcome to the forum. I once lived in Canton a long time ago. It was my first time in Amerika.

This is not new territory, replacing a K1100 into a K100 chassis. I am building a K100 with a K12 motor.

You will need just the motor and some minor injection/electrics for a basic swap, retaining almost all of the K100 bits, but to what benefit?

If you want to realise the full potential of the K11 then you'll need both engine and chassis looms, Instruments, ECU (Motronic 2.1 or 2.2), ignition amplifier (if Mo 2.1 is chosen), injectors, ATS, throttle bodies and TPS, airbox, intake rubbers, Paralever - and corresponding gearbox for the mount, K11 shock, final drive, K11 forks (to retain a reasonably good handling wheelbase length) and etc. While you're at it there's the wheels, tyres and brakes to consider.

Are you ready to delve into it? It takes a bit of learning and there are people here who have done it/can do it/can offer advice, having been down that path.

There are heaps of good K100 models out there for cheap. Same for K1100.

Thanks for the reply.

The owner is selling the bike at a reasonable price and It's already aesthetically similar to what I want to achieve (hope he still has the original radiator cover in the heap of junk he has that came with the purchase).

It doesn't help that the owner doesn't know what work has been done to the bike, and just knows that it's ride-able and runs. Acquiring all of those parts you've listed looks like it 'll cost more than the bike itself.

Also, I don't know how much I would be involved in the actual build process because I'll probably defer to a reputable builder in my area because I just am not equipped in my city apartment to do the work myself, my neighbors would hate me more than they already do. Twisted Evil

What were you doing in Canton of all places?!

That's a story best told in detail another day. Suffice to say that my father, the Yank, grew up there and so we got shifted to live with the grandparents briefly until mum, the Aussie, came over to retrieve us. Mid '70s it was a leafy suburb of Beantown, and prolly still is, only more crowded. I crashed my first motor there, a Honda 90.
