So after owning a variety of different bikes, a friend of mine kept nagging me to get a K100. His bike has done about 130k miles he has owned it for about 10 years uses it every day. He has only serviced it twice! and both times I took the mick saying ‘your shock it to death with that fresh oil’. So I thought there might be something good about owning a K.
So I brought one, a k100rs with 40k on the clock. My first real ride on it was to the Dragon Rally in North Wales, it made it there and back, just. I learned that the bike was far from well, the previous owner hadn’t fixed any of the problems, he somehow adjusted and retuned it so it ran ok-ish, with some ham fisted monkey bodging in the mix.
I have now just (after two years and a bit of riding) I have gone through everything, it’s now running somewhere acceptable. Thanks to looking and getting advice from posts you guys have posted, so a big thanks!!! And thanks to Dai for the electric’s advice and telling me about the forum.
At last year’s Dragon Rally sitting around the camp in the evening and drinking far too much, some bright spark came up with a great idea……. Let’s do the Elephant Rally it’s the 60th anniversary next year! and after a bit more drink we all thought it as a good idea.
So I’m back in the shed strapping a sidecar to the K, it’s almost done now and looking forward to being the test pilot then getting it ready for the 2k mile round trip to the Elephant Rally, and then a week later, to North Wales for the Dragon.
I’ll try and keep you all posted (if you’re interested) of our adventure so watch this space!
good to meet you all!
