Ok then,
I gather it is a bit taller than the original,
and I should be aware of not letting the +pos terminal
come into contact with any tank, frame or metal parts...obviously

So apart from all that , is there anything else I should look out for ??
or anything to make fitting easier

Hello!

It's fairly popular consensus that connecting red/positive clips first to the positive/red posts, then the black/negative clip to the frame.
Taking the Batterie out is the opposite way.
You will avoid a Electric shortcut.

The positive terminal sits very close to the securing plate. I trapped a small piece plastic under the plate but over the terminal to make sure no contact could take place because that securing plate goes straight to earth.

A full short circuit may have never happened but it just seemed awfully close.

+1 on Mike's advice on protecting the positive terminal.  I have a piece of rubber sheet(a chunk of old inner tube is perfect) clamped under the battery hold down and draped over the positive terminal and the wire connected to it.

Always brush up the terminals so they are shiny and give them a lite coat of dielectric grease before you connect them.  Only tighten them to where you can't wiggle the connection plus a tiny tweak.  Most battery terminals are lead and as such are easy to strip the threads out.

It is very important to protect the positive terminal especially on pre 94 models because the battery cradle is earthed by a small wire which can easily be blown like a fuse and then the final stage amplifier of the ignition system doesn't work well if at all. Not one of BMW finest moments of design.

Again all that the other guys have said is right. When I fitted an Odessey to my form K which was an ex-Plod RTIC I made a Glass cloth/epoxy battery clamp plate form a mold taken in plaster from the original so that short circuiting couldn't occur.

I can only gather thatI will have to be VERY careful and ensure the +pos terminal doesn't come into contact with anything it shouldnt

Apologies, as this is a little late - but might be of help to anyone fitting the Odyssey battery to a K1. I had to flatten the terminal ends of the HT leads in order for them to sit flush on the top of the new battery. Other than that I incorporated the suggested protective lining to insulate the battery terminals against shortening with the battery cradle. I noticed that Odyssey batteries (although have great cranking power and never need servicing) seem not to like cold temperatures.

I've used Odyssey batteries for years, and on my old boxer were absolutely fantastic in winter starting.

Never had any cold temperature problems with an Odyssey either.

Hi All,
glad to hear the Odyssey doesn't give problems.
I didn't have any real problems fitting it.
The old one was the same height
The only difference was the lugs...vertical on the old.
I did get a pair of brackets from Motorworks, but decided not to use them
as they would have for deffo made the height issue worse.

Just had to gently twist the + cable & terminal thru 90deg, 
and with the assistance of heat gun made a snug fit.
The battery end of the neg cable was badly oxidised, which didn't help charging,
and probably led along with a low voltage reading to the ABS fault showing up.
In any case I was able to solder and re-attach the lug to suit the new battery.

Ran thru the fault checking process on the 3 way conn using analogue multimeter (very handy)
and managed to reset the ABS without difficulty
In the process I found the cap that's been missing off the 3 way cable connector ;-)

As an aside I have been charging / discharging the old battery (Aug 2012) since the change-out.
Initially it seemed to be a bit of a dud and not holding much charge,
But running it on the Optimate for a few cycles seems to have given it a new life
