Greetings, fellow K brethren. It's been yonks. It has been beaten to death so I won't linger on the wetness of the Winter in the Pacific North Wet this interminably long, drawn-out, cold weather season. Today there are signs of Spring as the weather folk are saying we've had the wettest in umptygobblin years. I think the skiers, farmers and the spawning salmon will have come out ahead this year.

I just noted that it was end of November when I last logged on here. I took a new job when I returned from Down Under early November. I didn't truly realise just how much windscreen time I'd be getting into, and for travelling round Washington state along the I-5 corridor whilst the snow and rain fell I have actually bought a car, the first I've owned since early 2007. I have driven 9,000 miles between Centralia/Chehalis and just above Seattle since assuming the position. I am toiling for a crust for a nationwide aftermarket motorbike parts and accessories distributor. It was a solid ten year run solely on motorbikes between OZ and the US with only the occasional use of a girlfriend's four wheels for hunter/gatherer tasks at the shops.

While I haven't had more than three very short rides on my bikes this Winter I haven't been slack on the parts gathering front. I have managed to secure two complete sets of K1100RS bodywork - one burgundy, one black - and am only missing the side covers for the burgundy model. I've also begun the task of welding up some cobbly bits and painting the frame on the Big Block, as it was fitted rust pitting and all thirteen months ago when I first rolled it out. I've modded the K1200R even more, adding a K1300S lower control arm (half the weight) and Delkevic exhaust. I managed to (at last) clean the Alaskan wildlife off the RT, as well as perform the arcane ritual of bleeding the servo ABS module after replacing the softly failing rubber hoses for Spiegler braided stainless versions. My friend the landlord moved his stored Ford Ranger and R1150GS out of the two-bay garage in the house we've lived in for the past four years, and I have at last bought a proper motorbike lift, tyre balancer and tyre changing machine. It's good to have some room to move about and some tools for the job. I obtained a new Arai Corsair-X and a pair of Gaerne (long overdue) riding boots as pressies to myself, as well.

Christmas day I was riding to my storage shed two kilometres away from home. It was about 3(C) degrees, cold tyres, 300 metres from home, when I rounded the familiar corner onto the main drag and ended up arse over tea kettle. I landed on my right shoulder (well armoured) as the bike low-sided away from me, ending up facing the opposite direction of my intended path. The front brake lever, RH mirror, 'bar end indicator and crank cover all suffered some rashing. I had a reddish bruise the shape of Gorbachev's map of Poland forehead up my right side for several days and can still feel the shoulder blade when the weather shifts. Ain't none of us getting any younger.

I hope all have had a good season, whether Winter or Summer. I'll try to stop in more often, catch up, have a squiz at your various projects, and generally be less hermetic. Cheers and beers.
~Daz

Good to see you back!  For a while it looked like you were out in the woods with D.B. Cooper.

Shocking that I got more riding in this past winter living in the Lake Erie snow belt than you did living out in the balmy NW.

Good to see you are back and glad that the off isn't stopping you!

Some time you are travelling home maybe you should think about taking the long way home and travelling clockwise....

BA, Quantas, Emirates and Etihad do some nice global tickets and travelling with a stopover at Dublin and Dubai/Abu Dhabi you could sneak in an Eccentrics convention and meet up. You can only get 'proper' Guinness in Dublin irrespective of what the corporate guys try to tell you.

Having heard about the Pacific rain being in complete contrast to the stereotyped eternal sunshine picture some us have I think you might enjoy the stop over......

But its sounding like a nice workshop plan is in place with a nice Kollection of bikes to work on.

It is always good to hear an "OFF" incident was not too serious.
Sharing incidents helps some of us reflect and realize that we are vulnerable at all points in time under any riding condition.

Greetings friend, I was thinking maybe that you had gone to ground because of comments about your Knutzoid leader and not wanting the gentle attention of the CIA. But the truth is usually boring. Hope that new job is working out well and sounds like you're digging in what with a tyre changer and all. Couldn't half do with one of those myself.

Truth be told, 'twas a PM from Gaz just the other day what got me attempting to log in for a sticky beak. I'd forgotten it and had to use an old 'puter which had 'remembered' my password, much like the CIA/FBI/NSA might remember what is typed or transmitted. Not to worry, I reckon the gub'mint isn't as organised as we are often led to believe, current administration included. Rick G, the stuff I buy to make my mechancial life easier is easy to palletise and ship back home when the end of the world, as North Americans know it, nears. I just might take the long way round when I fly home next time, and do a stopover on the verdant isle and the green and pleasant land. The offer still stands for any forum member who wants a fine place to ride in this region. I've got the bikes and a spare room. Best time, late-June thru October.

Good to hear from you again Daz.  I thought the new job may have taken you away from us for a while as your felt your way around.

A month or so ago we had a bit more than normal rain and the iconic Yatala Pies went under water.  Not all the way but enough for them to shut up shop for a couple of weeks.  The roof was still showing though.  All the way from Distillery Road (Beenleigh Rum) through to the twin roundabouts.

Even though the M1 was still open, there were the little islands of Shell and BP amongst others.  Something to do with a cyclone up north.

It sure is and how time flys. We have had some big floods in that 6 years but that one almost came out of nowhere, there are a lot of long time residents saying they have never seen rain like it previously.
