I must admit to not enjoying riding my K when it is really really hot as

1. I havent isolated all the engine heat sources as I prefer the bike to keep me warm

2. The choice of  second / summer/ europe bike has not yet been decided on.

So when I had to ride into London for a friends funeral , I was not  looking forward to cooked legs all day.

I had fitted a Sat Nav to make sure I could find the place.

Purchased a nice lightweight summer jacket and wore my summer pants in the hope 

of being able to tolerate the heat.

I kept my legs cool by moving them outside of the fairing , but that was uncomfortable for any length of time.

Riding at 60 allowed me to flip up the visor , until I got bored of riding so slowly.

The worst time was in central London, crawling along, listening to my cooling fan run normally, then suddenly 

slowing down when things got really hot..   must change that unit.

Journey out of london, heading south into Kent was just as bad, with speed restrictions all the way.

Spent two days with my Nephew and  his two cats which are not allowed out, so no open windows 

and therefore very difficult to sleep in.

On the second night, I decided to return back to Nottinghamshire , about 200 miles north, at one oclock in the 

morning..

Such a different journey back home.

Cool air, very little traffic, and the K gently keeping me warm all the way back, heaven..

Bike was purring at something above allowed speeds, reminding me why I love this machine and its build quality.

A couple of non believers were chuckling to themselves recently at a local bike store when they noticed the 

cigarette lighter . asking why ride such an old bike....

We all know why..

On the plus side, I had a nice chat with a K1200rs owner who agreed that the Brick is a fine machine

Welcome to Aussie riding conditions.
I used to take the fairing lowers off mid Spring until Mid Autumn. Was the only way to enjoy the ride. I also found out the hard way that my fan was seized, hot water all over my crutch. But once she had cooled down and night fell I was able to ride the 140ks home no problem. That's when I really fell in love with the K. Never let me down. Sigh!.

Well RT, some people just let those solid old K bikes just slip through their fingers  

..... while others, such as a gentleman briefly known as FR seems to have seen the error of his ways and now known as FKR is not far away from attacking the highways again on a mighty K.

We need to catch up again soon.

Taking the fairing lowers off for the summer has crossed my mind RT, but for the number of "Aussie " summer 

days we get in the UK,  its not worth the hassle.

I am looking for a nice naked k100, or better still  a k1100 that has had the plastics removed , for European 

summer trips.

I would love Two Wheels Better 1200 big block unit with hard luggage....

I have looked at other BMW models, and indeed other makes, but nothing ticks all my boxes like the K does

Climate change Bob, palm trees in Brighton, Hawaiian shirts and flip flops coming your way.
I have been able to have a ride every week so far in Winter here with just thermal long johns. After the frosts have gone of course. Thinking of starting a tour up soon before it gets too hot here. 
My other bike is a Suzuki Vstrom 650. Excellent hot weather bike, really bad cold weather bike as Gaz and Tom can verify.
