Tubeless BT45 on front is letting air by through the stem on my K75.
Can I get a tire shop to do a stem replacement?
DIY?

Yes, but if you are using right angle valve stems use the metal bolt in ones. The rubber pull through right angle ones can fail where they go into the rim. The reason that they split is that when you inflate or check the pressure you are pushing on them and it can eventually cause them to tear and leak. I've had a front one rapidly deflate at highway speed.

Regards Martin.

If you're still running the original factory stems you are trusting your life and well-being to 30 year old rubber.

I run metal valve stems on all of my bikes. Best done when installing new tires.

Tubeless BT45 on front is letting air by through the stem on my K75.

I had this on the front BT45 tyre of my K1100 a month or so ago. Took it to a local bike shop that has wheel changing facilities and they chopped off the old rubber valve, removed the tyre, fitted a new valve.

Total charge - absolutely free. his comment was it's only a valve. I have bought and had tyres fitted there before, for both my K1100 and R1150 RT (to loose wheels). Very clean workshop and careful working procedure.

Obviously going back when I need new tyres.

I keep a small supply of 15mm base BMW rubber stems and replace them every other tyre change, and have the lever tool that pulls the stem through the rim. It's a good idea to have your own simple core removal tool in your kit as well so you can replace the sometimes dodgy odd one yourself.

Metal stems are da biz too, but since I keep 'em fresh....
