I really like the sound of my horns on the RT. They're pretty loud, but when I remove my fairing and go naked those horn are just not going to cut-it. They're ugly plastic.

Found these twin chrome horns on EME this evening and thought they'd do the job nicely.
Has anyone used these? Do they sound ok?

Are there any piezo type horns/sirens that would do the job? They come pretty small these days and could be mounted discreetly anywhere.

Check out the Stebel Magnum T80 or the later TM80.
Seriously loud and similar in size and shape to the original K bike horns.
Seems to be a popular mod for different makes.

I don't know whether newer air horns are better these days, but my experience some years back was that there was a delay from pressing the button to sound coming because of building up pressure in the air pump, though good and loud when it came.
When I use a horn, fortunately rarely in warning situations (as opposed to greeting etc.) I want instant noise.

Any personal experience from anyone on modern air horns?

One possible reason is that horns that play a tune are illegal downunder.

Looks a bit more compact than Stebel Nautilus horn

I was running a Stebel Nautilus which was seriously loud and instantaneous until it reduced itself to a squawk. I tried blowing it out and tried squirting WD40 into it to no avail. As the mob that sells them is just down the road I decided to try the more compact Magnum Low note. It proved to be loud but not as loud as the Nautilus, so I added the Magnum high as well as the OEM horn had reduced to a squeak.  The dual are close to matching the Nautilus and I can switch between one horn or both. The old Nautilus is a sealed unit and out of curiosity I broke into it and I still couldn't find out why it wasn't working.

I bought a set of air horns for my K1100LT and the two horns are positions directly onto the two holes underneath, at either side of the headlight. A perfect fit. A 6" and a 9" trumpet.

I have already ordered same again for the K100RS as they will fit in there too. 

139dB is good...

FYI: My 2014 K1600GT came from the factory with a scooter horn.  I upgraded to these which work pretty well.

My K still runs twin original factory horns. I am very happy with them and they are concealed well. Sounds like an angry truck driver.

However, I have a Honda (oh, the shame) with a 'very polite single beep-beep horn. I added in parallel a cheap and nasty Chinese unit I found "on line"  for about $5 delivered. It makes an awful discordant rasping screech, not particularly loud but highly offensive..... Certainly gets attention

I learned decades ago on my R100S that when using the curled trumpet Fiamms, it is really important to point the trumpet's bell opening straight down onto the roadway. Otherwise, water can be forced in eventually by highway wind + rain downpours into the trumpet's coils, and then just a little water will turn the airwave sound from a blast into a burble. Actually, Mr. Rees of Rees Motors, an excellent BMW bike dealer in Shelbyville, Tennessee and a rider with 300+ thousand miles on his Brunnhilda, taught me this trick back in the early 1980s. Hope it is useful to someone here.
