Hi everyone, I need some help...
I have a k100 RS and I would like to mount the seat of an LT or RT, I need to know what I need to mount it on my RS, the type of support are different, from the realOEM site I have the list of components but I would like to see how they are mounted on the frame ....

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0513-USA-09-1986-K589-BMW-K_100_RS_83_0502,0503,0513_&diagId=52_3681

Can someone take a pictures of the frame under the Seat, I need to understand which components I need...

Thanks so much.

You need to state the model and year, is it the 16v in your signature?

The early seats had the metal base and built in grab handles and had a different rear cowl. The 8V bikes seat and hinges are all interchangeable. The later 16v comfort seats had different hinges and a deeper seat pan. They can be fitted to the 8v bikes if you trim down the under seat tool box. You need to trim anything that protrudes above the frame. With the tool box in place I slid a white marker along the frame marking the tool box. The box was then removed and trimmed down. The capacity of the box is reduced but not by much. You could play around and modify the lid to fit, but I just used a folded cloth to keep everything in place. A thin piece of plastic could also be used. I couldn't find a set of hinges and ended up making a set. I used the seat once and found it a little too high so sold it to GB777. Gary might post piccies of the base and hinges if required.
Regards Martin.

You want the single seat, everything in the REALOEM you will need, but fits your K Smile
Gonna need this one too; https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0513-USA-09-1986-K589-BMW-K_100_RS_83_0502,0503,0513_&diagId=52_3682
or make a cowl by yourself.

I'm not sure if the 16v is the same setup. Piccies are of my K75s. The under seat toolbox also houses the FIC the toolbox shown with the lid removed. I just found out the 16v don't have the tool box.

As Arlina observed, you've supplied the diagram and parts list for a single, police-moto seat. That's the seat you want to mount? It will leave a gap between the rear of the seat and the tail cowl.

I don't want the phone box or the single seat.... I'll explain my idea, which is not mine

https://imgur.com/M4qWFjY
https://imgur.com/36iXZPL

this person used the OEM seat of an LT only reshape and upholstered, and for the tail he used a cover from a ducati monster 696.
I would like to do the same thing but I need an LT seat because it fits better than the RS one...
he does not respond to messages and I find no other information on how to install on my frame it and which hinges I need.....

my RS had this seat and it doesn't fit well with the tank

Sorry I had explained myself badly with my first one post...

Thanks for clarifying. That's a cleanly-designed custom.

The seat in the photo you have supplied of your moto is of a Low Bench seat. It was designed for riders with shorter leg length for ease of pavement contact when the moto is stopped. It is not a common configuration. All other types of Standard bench seats have straight bottom edge profiles that turn upward at the front and rear, except the K100 model seats made before mid-1985. Any of the Standard style should swap to your project, but if you want them to hinge, you need their hinge parts plus a rear hinge pin welded to the frame on the brake side of the moto if there is not one there already.

This is my OEM seat configuration
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0523-EUR-10-1990-89V1-BMW-K_100_RS_0523,0533_&diagId=52_3686

As you can see the hinge are different, I can´t swap so easy and I don't have any rear hinge pin welded to the frame on the brake side of the moto....
I would need a real photo of the underseat of an LT to understand how the seat is fixed to the frame with which hinges... but on google I can not find anything .... can someone post photos of their underseat? it would help

I know youre asking about 16v...but anyone with an 8v looking to change seats and/or cowls....

I once swapped a post '85 seat and cowl (plastic base seat, grab handles in cowl) onto my 84 bike (metal base seat with grabs in seat)....it bolts on fine but leaves about an inch gap between the front of the seat and the back of the tank...does not work...total bummer.

That seat type was explained to you in Post#12.

Here is a basic, standard dual bench seat that will fit on your frame. It is found on RT, RS and LT models. The battery cover beneath the forward half of this seat would be a slightly differing shape on your moto if it had come with a basic bench seat and differing mounts.
Seat replacement from RS to LT Basicb10

Here is the center seat prop assembly before it's locked open. The mid side hinge is indicated by the red arrow.
Seat replacement from RS to LT Mid-si10

Here is the brake side rear hinge mounted on its pin.
Seat replacement from RS to LT Brakes10

The red arrow points at the rear hinge assembly.

A battery cover conceals this space showing the coolant reservoir and brake fluid reservoir when a basic bench seat is mounted Your moto would have a slightly different style than this moto if it had been supplied with a basic bench seat.

Most of the hardware is indicated on parts fiche drawings like this one.

There is the pin on my frame

https://imgur.com/FxINQoI

So I need the Hardware 5 with lock, then 3 and 4 and nothing else because a part of the seat will be cut off…

so with those components I can mount any seat because they have all the same type of hinges.

Thanks Laitch for the support

I'd like to be able to assure you that everything will go as planned now that you have this information, but we both know that's unlikely.  Laughing  It will all work out eventually; I'm sure of that.
