I'm trying to get the gauges working on my K75C. The speedo doesnt work at all and the tacho works but seems to be showing about 1000 rpm less than actual (i.e. its on the zero mark at idle).

I did open the unit up and had a look about. All "looks" ok except that the odo gears have fallen apart. This is a separate issue I'll deal with later.

Any suggestions on these issues? The tacho seems an odd one.

Also - could I fit K1100 gauges to the K75? (by this I mean can I swap the unit off my K1100 to the K75 so that I can get it registered?)

I seem to remember I tried to change my 75C speedo for some issue and used a K75/100 one but the actual loom  connector/cover was slightly different.  I thought at the time that as the C was an '85 model it must have been different to later models.  

As I no longer have that moto I cannot be sure but all the other speedos I checked were the same and did not connect to the 75C.

I know the gears are stuffed on the odometer/trip but that doesnt explain the tacho problem or the speedo not working. A little bag of 200 gears showed up today so maybe I can fix the odometer, but of course there is no point in doing that if the rest of it doesnt work.

How do I check the pickup? The soldering iron trick wont work if the speedo is stuffed so would be inconclusive. Is there another way I can check it?

I did check the pickup resistance with a multimeter and it was the same as my K1100, which works. The K11 and K75 pickups arent interchangable - different connections.

Just a thought - could I simply have the wrong instruments on the bike? K100, K11 or something?? Is there a part number I could check?

Phil, have a read through Robmac’s post about the Karamba software at the link I’ve put below.

I used the software to check my Speedo right at the beginning of my K75 project way back in 2012/13 and it worked a treat. I made up the adaptor cable needed to connect the laptop to the bike harness and while I have moved house twice since I used Karamba I doubt that I would have got rid of that cable - just have to find it if you want to borrow it.

The software is probably here on the site somewhere and I might even have a copy saved somewhere.

Just for the record my Speedo was proven fine by the software so careful check of the wiring between the pickup and the plug on the harness showed up some damage which was my problem.
