I've been on this forum for many years, but I couldn't remember my user name so I'm back again having rejoined!!

I have an 87 K100 (I've had it for about 12 years!) with problems!!

I sent this as an email to Bert:-

This is a last resort, I'm at my wits end, my 87 K100 starts well, pulls well up to 2500 / 3000 rpm and then shuts down, hot or cold,

I've changed the plugs fuel pump fuel filter, checked the injectors, fuel pressure OK, (changed and tested pressure relief valve) tested with and without idle switch, I tried another EFI _unit, tested all the pins everything exactly as required!

It's shutting down as though it was over revving any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Could it be that despite testing OK at the plug something weird happening with the flow meter?

Cheers, Matthew

:welcome:Back Tinker I too had a nightmare problem, cutting out loss of power, the culprit turned out to be the ICU ignition control unit situated under the tank near front of the frame, replaced  it ran like a dream. Hope this helps  Very Happy Very Happy

Welcome!  I agree with Moriarti.  I believe the ICU is where the over rev protection is implemented.

Thank!

I tried it, no different.

Subsequently, not straight after testing with another ICU it's not starting at all!back to the beginning, so far I've cleaned  the ground connections and all the cable connectors, The fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, the injectors tested as good the flow meter tests as good, I'm about to test the water temp and re test the hall sensors, which were the first thing I changed when the problem started! Not much left to try!

Cheers, Matthew

Make sure temperature sensor is connected. If you have a poor electrical connection it may alter the mixture or if completely electrically isolated cause a refusal to start. Recheck the ICU connections and clean them.

Since toying with the ICU made it worse, that would be a good place to look at again. If no help maybe go through Bert's guide until you hit a problem. If you get back to the original problem, unlikely but maybe have a quick look at the alternator plug, that it's clean and snug.

Thanks, a good idea! that will be my next step! I just went over all the plug in connections and ground points, cleaned and protected them with Vaseline!

What a nightmare

Cheers, Matthew

Well, I didn't say the ICU made it worse, just it's got worse, but not straight after changing the ICU. I have tested the temperature sensor, not good, I'm waiting for a new one!

Cheers, Matthew.
