Just in the process of buying an accident damaged 16v K100RS with a view to using as a distance commuter as my daily drive is 120km.
I had a late 80's K100RS when my wife and I were in the UK in the early 90's and we spent 3 months with a tent and the K, probably why I've returned to a K after all these years!
Will be in need of technical info to sort the beastie out. Had been thinking about buying a low tech pushrod air head R series then saw the K but it just felt right, so abs ,computers and a multivalve motor now in the fray!

  • The headlight fairing is in two pieces and needs work
    fairing blade long gone
    The lh mirror/indicator missing
    lh fork seal weeping
    rear disk looks worn
    seat catch doesnt work
    km are
over 100000, but I'm sure its good for many more!

Need a manual and to find a good source of spares .
Hopefully should be fun and not too expensive
affraid

Saw some faring parts(lowers ) on Ebay today for $90. Letf mirror complete for 149 I think. A little less than new. Safety wire your mirrors on. Mine still fall off but at least they don't smash on the pavement. I went through several very quickly.
also when changing the fork seals be careful of the bushings on the tubes. First time I've had this happen but I believe these hooked eachother when reinstalling mine. Ruined a fork assembly. I cant take it apart or fully compress it and had to replace.
Good luck with yours.

You can find a downloadable copy of the K1100 on the internet. The engine and cycle parts are pretty much the same as the K100RS16v.
Let me know if you can't find a copy. I have one I can send you.

have ordered a mirror off beemerboneyard.com , need to find a supplier for fork seals and ideally a new screen for the headlight fairing, preferably a taller one than std. Any supplier recomendations appreciated!
Have also splashed out on a new clymer manual.
I buy most of my BSA parts via the net (mainly ex UK) so hoping I can do the same with the K.
Thanks for all the warm greetings. Hope to start fettling soon!

Fork seals are readily avail in NZ. get a bike shop to order some from Euro wholesale in New Plymouth, good quality euro made seals and very reasonable price. There are also Asian made ones available true a guy in Nelson, sell on trademe all the time, but I have never tried them so can not comment on quality.

Hi Rocket,
Great to have another Kiwi around but your avatar looks suspiciously like an Echidna an Australian native. I also have a 16 Valve and I know you will find it a great bike once you have it sorted. Look forward to reading a bit about you and your bike.
Regards,
K-BIKE

I did wonder if anyone would pick who spiny norman is, he's about 12 feet from tail to snout...
Have fibreglassed the front fairing back together, initially screwed it together with bits of aluminium, then once it had the glass behind it making it strong again could discard them and fill the holes.
Its wet and cold here so am questioning whether I reassemble looking tatty and paint it once summer arrives. Nothing like cold damp weather to make paint go cloudy and its an easy enough job once the weathers right.
Was daft enough to order the wrong side mirror 🤡 so now have 2 of one side ! so need to order the correct one.
Have replaced the leaking front fork seal and next need to address bleeding the front abs brakes which have far too much lever travel.
But steadily making progress although my racing BSA side car needs to be put back together for display at the CRC Speedshow in a few weeks so have some distractions Very Happy better go do some work...

I am in the throes of painting my new to me K1100LT but have to pick and choose the days because of the cold.
SE queensland is usually good in winter but at Stanthorpe we are 1000m above sea level and it gets cold in winter so I need to put the pieces in the sun for a while before painting and it has become a long process which I wanted to finish two weeks ago.
But we trade the cold winters for the good summer climate which last summer didn't get past 27cel and that was a hot day.

If you have two right mirrors you may be able to swap for a good left as the right ones are far harder to get secondhand.

Bike failed its test due to play in the back wheel. after some investigating it was the diff bearings. hmm shimming and fiddly. Dealer job... $$$ spent and now all road legal.
A nice sunny day so took it for a run round the block (just 30km of 100km/h b roads) including some metal, lovely Very Happy
Might even refit the belly pan...nah need to work on the BSA, race seasons coming.
Tomorrow hoping to see TT3D closer to the edge which opened Friday and likely to be a short run.
