Anyone ever had an arm of the stand break off due to metal fatigue? First time for everything I guess! Gonna take it off and have it welded back on. K75 is a heavy beast to pick up when its gone over! I needed help!

There are heaps of inexpensive stands available from places like eBay, Motorworks, and perhaps even Motobins in the UK. Better still, upgrade to a second hand K1100 centre and side stand complete. They bolt right on, but be sure to get all the bits like springs and pins.

If anyone is still interested in this thread, just thought I would interject:

Just completed the installation of a centre/side stand from a 1993 K1100LT on my K100rs (1985). It has stock exhaust and standard size rear tire (Bridgestone Spitfire). It went on as if it were made for the bike (all the bolt holes lined up and tire and exhaust cleared and lined up nicely). This centre stand has a longer "lever" attached to it which makes getting it up on the stand much easier than the stock one. The side stand holds it up slightly higher than the stock one did. I still think it should be a bit higher or steeper angle when on the side stand, but it is better than stock. The centre stand itself sits the bike slightly higher than before, but still at an acceptable height for my 30" inseam.

Just wanted to post this as I was having a hard time confirming the fit before laying out the bucks. I decided to take the chance, and am pleased with the results. I found it by posting in the "items wanted" section of the BMWMOA website and got an emial response the next day from a person in Pennsylvania.

I whacked one onto my bike a few weeks ago when I put the wider tyre and 18" wheel on. Your findings concur with mine. Though a small section of the left foot has to be ground back to clear the wider radial tyre.

My K1100 almost falls onto the centre stand, it is just so much easier than the K100 and especially the K75 that has a low shockie.

I reckon I have to heave mine a bit more after I went to the 160/60ZR18 tyre and with the K1100 centre stand, but the additional foot lever length does make it tolerable. There might be some slight difference with a K1100 from stock that makes it easier than a K100 with the later bits added on to it. Wheelbase, Paralever, length of rear shockie, etc. Mind, I wouldn't change back after any of the mods I've done recently. It's a refreshed motorbike!

The only difference I could see were some 6mm spacers that I gathered were put between the gearbox housing and stand on the LT and left out on the RS because they are a bit lower due to the low profile of the radial. Although the K1100 is higher than the K100 by about 20mm I presume because of a longer shockie and paralever.

The short arse Works Performance shockie I've got on mine contributes to that feeling of having to get it up over the fulcrum point with a bit of extra effort. When I eventually go back to a proper length shock I think it'll be easier. Once up you can see that the tyre is further off the tarmac than an original suspender and the bog stock tyre. The thing is, this shock works all right even if it does only have spring preload adjustment. I just wish it had some damping adjustment like my Progressive Suspension and Koni shocks do. Once upon a time I was spoilt and rode a K1200S with ESA. Damn, that was nice and easy. Also, I had an old Airhead with some custom-built Italian BiTubo shocks on it with high and low speed compression damping, preload and the ability to make a good cuppa coffee...being Italian and all.
