HI all, thought it was about time I posted an intro after lurking here for some time. I returned to bikes about a year ago after a fairly long break, bought an ex-police 1999 K1100 as a non-runner thinking (hoping) that it would be reasonably easy and cheap to get roadworthy - how wrong was I Rolling Eyes

Initially getting it running was simple, just needed the battery connecting correctly, new fork seals to stop them leaking, new front wheel bearings and a few other things - mainly cosmetic. Took the bike for its MOT (it passed) and found a couple of oil leaks, the easy one was loose oil pan bolts, the other was a stripped thread on one of the crankshaft cover bolts, while fixing this I found a destroyed big end bearing. A new (ebay) crank and bearing shells and all seemed good - until the clutch started slipping Shocked Pulled the transmission and final drive complete and replaced the complete clutch and seals, fixed a few other problems as well. Just passed second MOT and hoping the worst is behind me..
As you may guess, I try to do all my own spannering and electrical work.

Signing off for now
Nigel

Hi Nigel it seems like you are an old hand as I often see you have been on the forum.
Often buying a second hand bike you are buying a problem that someone else got rid of but keep going my K11 is a mighty rocket to ride.

Hi Nigel,
Good to have you with us, fixing up the ex-Police bikes can be a pain because when they get sold they just roughly disconnecct all their special bits and can leave the wiring in a right old state. Lots of help to be found on the forum though.
Regards,
K-BIKE

K-Bike - I know what you mean, several times I've found odd bits of wiring and thought WTF!
