Greetings to the list, I just bought a k100rs. I'm charging the battery now and expect it to fire right up. There is one issue however. The shift lever is kind of floppy like it has a broken spring. It cycles the gears it just doesn't return to a normal middle position by itself.

Welcome Scout!

You have found the correct place to be a member as a owner of a old K.
Plenty of info, and not to forget all the helpful lads.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but it sounds like you got a loose grub screw at the other end of the shaft.

No worries I'm pretty mechanical. I'm trying to run down a manual for it.

What a wonderful resource. I know exactly which screw it is now. It looks like the tranny needs to come out to get at it but that's alright. I probably want to have a look in there anyway.

So does the transmission have to come out to tighten the grub screw on the shifter shaft? No secret BMW trick to do this in situ?

Beside drilling a big enough hole in the gearbox housing,
there is not any known shortcuts to get acces to this grub screw.

Ok is it really necessary to pull all the final drive stuff to get at the grub screw. Can I leave it attached to the gear box? It seems like it can all stay together.

It is possible to remove gearbox/drive assy as one unit.

Take care with the clutch pushrod........or drain the gearbox and remove it.......
before dismantling.

Could maybe be a idea to put your questions in the technical section........................

Someone later searching gearbox repair info...wouldn`t find it logical to search for this in the Member`s introduction section....................

Hi Scout,
Good to have you with us, it sounds like you have a loose grub screw in the gearbox. Post in the section for engine and transmission and then people will see and comment/advise not all members read the Introduction thread so things get missed.
Regards,
K-BIKE
