My name is Al and I'm located in southern Missouri. I've been riding for 40 years, starting on Triumph, moving to Sportsters, then to big twin Harleys, with the occasional Norton, BMW, and Moto Guzzi for good measure. I recently bought an '85 K100RT and so far have few complaints. Thanks for the opportunity to share in the knowledge of other K owners. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute something worthwhile as well.

Hi Al,
Good to hear from you in Missouri, hello from London England.
Cheers, Boris the Bike.
(numerous bike for 30 years +, although some were Japan rice burners, shhh, but they do make great bikes. Now got a 100RS, after my 100 RT was ruined by a 4 wheeled myopic car driver last year.)

and glad that you made it through your accident! I've never made it to London although quite a bit of my cash, along with my son Smile has visited there and he really enjoyed his stay.. My cash enjoyed it so well that it never came back! How do you like the RS compared to the RT?

I love them both. The RT was slower. Just made you want to 'relax' and cruise about, The added weight of the fairing and the far greater wind resistence of the windshield, lower fairing (scuse my spellling, I'm dyslexic and cant be fussed to use the spell check!!) all added up to slower. But hey, what the hell it was quite fast enough for a 20 year old bike with a 50+ year old on top. Great protection though, and given our 'English' weather and the rain and snow and rain and sleet and rain, and the a sunny bit, it was invaluable and a real all year bike. Rode it in minus 5C and 3 ft of snow! But did it get HOT in the summer. Shins glowing red in traffic. But in the winter what lovely warm legs. Mixed blessing.
The RS is much more sporty fun. I wonder if the computer box was programmed differently by BMW for each model? It really provides what our Police call 'rapid progress' (well it is 20 years old, shaft drive and not Japanese, so it is a relative fast) but none the less it just wants to go faster. Cruises at 90mph without a bit of hussle, and its 'roll on' from 55 to 100+ is just sublime. No fuss just a lovely big hearted surge. Not like a rice burner at all. At 125+ I remember I'm not rubber and that the machine has had a number of not so caring owners. Time to show respect for both of us. The fairing is still great, and gives more cover than I would have belived. Without the lower bits, it also gets less hot. But yes there is less protection. Not so easy to ride at first and a bit of a pain in the wrist , but it does seem to handle better at higher speeds. That long wheel base and big wheels kick in.
Enough, I need a beer (its saturday night here - 9pm.) Cheers B.T.B.

Hi Al,
Greetings from New Zealand which is about as far as you can go south without hitting ice, although climate here is similar to Spain as we are on a similar but opposite line on the globe.

NZ is a great place for riding and as it is a Sunday I think I might go for a spin today.

Great to have you on board and be lucky (same goes for all of course).
Regards,
K-BIKE

Welcome aboard too!

Over the last couple of weeks, the forum got a pile of new members.
As I was vacationing on the old continent, I had not the chance to welcome all the new people (You never advertize that your not home for a month).
During this time, K-Bike took care of the forum. (It was not a lot to do as we are all civilzed and don't need moderators).

I just want to wish a warm welcome to all new members and hope that everybody will enjoy sharing their experience as well as getting answers to their questions.

Bert
