Hello from Richmond, VA, USA. I'm Jack and a long time Beemer rider. Started with an R75/5 in '73 and kept going from there. With a few other lesser brands thrown in for spice! Actually found this site in searching for a little help in freeing up my seat lock on my '87 K100RS. Not frozen, but the lock is stuck and can't get the seat open. Rather than take a hammer and torch to it, thought I'd look for a simpler solution to fixing it before I dreamt up my own solution. Anyway, the site looks great and there's some really fine information and stories here. Looks like fun. Thanks...........................

Thanks! I checked that one out and it will be of great help, as soon as I figure how to get the seat opened up with the lock stuck!

Ok, I'm going to state the obvious...you have sprayed some lubricant in the key hole, haven't you?

The lock is attached to the frame with two 8mm bolts from the rear and 2 Phillips head screws from the front.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Jax.

Sit on it.
Have someone push the button.
Unless you have a dextrous finger and can manage these things on your own.
Then stand up (maybe on the pegs) with the button still pressed.
Lift the seat.
Problem solved.

Nurse, send in the next patient.

Welcome Jack. I reckon if you can't get the help needed to sort out your seat lock problem here, it's impossible to ever fix!
After it's taken care of, stick around. The more the merrier!

Yeah, thanks guys! A pretty lively group for sure. Headed into the garage now to work on this troublesome little lock. It's not that it's frozen or stuck. The button pushes in fine, the latch won't release. Sort of like a little gizmo in there that moves the latch failed! Go figure, the thing's only 26 years old and with all the junk that I keep under the seat that I constantly need to get at, it's a wonder it didn't break years ago. Time to go play locksmith!
