Another gremlin. Started of with two flashing lights. Made a LED test light that indicated front wheel sensor fault. On removal there was a split in the cable. So replacement sensor fitted. Now I have one flashing light! Memory reset, tested and no fault showing stored in the memory. Battery before starting is showing 12.4v and charging at 14.08v at 1500rpm. Tried the rolling start method but still one light flashing. When I use the reset button when moving the light stays on but stops flashing. I'm starting to get target fixation staring at this light!Shocked Any suggestions?

Gerard

Inge, this could be a possibility. I will check out the wiring in the morning. Thanks

Checked all wires and all ok. Checked connections to ABS relay at back of ABS unit and ok. Could it be the ABS relay at the unit?

Disconnect and measure the resistance at each sensor.
If you not allready have done that.

It have been different sensors used during the years, I believe they also got different resistance.
Is your replacement the correct one?

I assume your replacement have been gaped correctly.

ABS 2 Again Kontak12

Front sensor: contact 13 & 25.
Rear sensor: contact 12 & 24.

135 ohms, also check for short to ground.

The tolerance should be +/- 20 ohm, so your sensors is OK.

Been searching for some other info about only one warning lamp showing........
which I remember I`ve seen.
But to find back to this in cyberspace, that`s a quite other story.

Sorry, I got no other ideas...at the moment.

So, the sensors are fine, the gap correct, the battery Ok and cables all ok. Would I be correct in saying that after the bike starts and I have a hold of the abs relay at the rear of the unit, I should be able to hear/ feal it click? scratch

If you achieve the self test when reaching 5 km/h, the relay functions.
But you maybe don`t reach that far since a fault is detected.

Usually the ABS system don`t complete the self test if a fault is detected.

Could be that another reset is needed, have read in different forums that sometimes a whole lot is needed before finally succes.

I think a guy on the K11OG forum got the record, succes at the 51 attempt.

With the ignition off, is there meant to be voltage being recorded at the rear of the abs module? Pre ignition I am reading 12.3v, after the fuel pump has charged the voltage reading drops to 11.8 - 12v. Could this be the source of my abs problems?

I would expect to read at least 12.6v with the battery disconnected or ignition off.
Put the meter across the battery and see what the voltage is when the starter is cranking (disconnect the fuel pump so the engine wont start) and keep cranking for 10 seconds to see what voltage you get.
It should not drop below about 11.2 for a good battery, if it drops to 10 volts or close the battery is cactus. I know with the ABS1 the whole thing is very sensitive to low volts but I am not sure of how the ABSII reacts to low voltage but probably much the same.

Cactus it is then Rick. New test showed 12.45v before ignition on, 10.6v during 10sec start cycle (fuel pump disconnected) and 12.2v after start cycle with ignition off. Tested with engine running at idle, reading 14.6v or there abouts. Going to put a switch on the ABS to turn on after start up and see what happens.

I would say that it is in it's final moments I reckon you should read it the last rites.

Fitted a switch on the power supply to the ABS and turned the power off. Went for a spin to get the charge up again, turned on power to ABS still not working, reset, still not working. Fair to assume the brain needs to go to Japan Sad

Hi GMcQ I assume you have eliminated any issues with the bulb failure sensing I believe on the ABS 1 a solid on light was a bulb failure warning and often the rear light and its socket was the culprit. May be worth a read of the 96 owners manual to see if the steady light was a bulb failure warning, of course I could be barking up the wrong tree it has been known Embarassed

Hi K-Bike, all lights are working, main warning light goes out when front & back brake used. On ABS2 there are two lights on the console that can flash. I have only one flashing. I am just going to disconnect it for the time being. Not that worried about it not working, its the flashing light that is annoying, like target fixation, cant stop staring at it!
