Hello,

This problem that i will discribe is not mine but from a friend that had a K100 RT from 89.

I do not know if is an electrical problem but for me it is.

In last months his bike just stops after 20/30 kms. We are riding normaly and the engine just stops. Then we have to stop normally and 20 or 30 minutes after it just starts and we are riding again.

But some kms after we are again in the side of the road waiting for the bike.

Have someone already have this problem?

What do you think it is?

Thank you!

It might help to describe in a little more detail about what's happening. I'm relatively new to the K100 but since I'm the first to reply, I'll suggest checking some things...

Prior to 'stopping,' does anything happen? Any noises? Engine struggle?

When it 'stops,' during the time it doesn't start up, do the lights stay on? Does it tick over at all? Any warning lights?

Have you checked major points of failure like dodgy or blown fuses? My K has a rare problem of cutting out or not starting, and it's usually because of the fuse box being a bit loose. I need to look into that myself. How's the battery? Oil levels? Temperature? Any noticeable damage anywhere? Perhaps a bare wire somewhere touching something it shouldn't be touching?

Sounds like the hall effect sensors are faulty. when they get hot they fail and start working again when cooled.
Remove the plate on the front of the engine to the ignition timing sensors and try heating them with a hair dryer or heat gun then see if the bike starts and stops when the sensors get hot before the engine heats up.
You can get new complete plates http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=hall
or the sensors http://www.bbautomacao.com/home_hall_effect_sensor_cyhme56.html

Thank you Nitrogen, thank you Rick!

I will try to detail the things,

The motorbike, before stopping don´t make any kind of noise and the engine is just ok!
The temperature gauge indicates normal temperature and there are no warning lights on. The battery is a new one and the oil levels are ok. I will try to see with him the fuse box and check for bare wires.

Now we will heat the sensors with a hair dryer and see if the bikes works! (I don´t remember of doing that! Thank you Rick, now we can see if is an electrical problem only, of course! Idea)
