Hi guys! Just got this nice 110k km K100RS, and am very happy. Got it very cheap, which just made it even better!
New Beemerowner in Denmark - 8v K100RS 10970110

I got fairing, boxes and stuff as well, but I like this look better, and there are some stuff needing to get done before she runs as she should.

Basically, the bike have been standing for a couple of years, after not being able to start at all. That's the initial reason it got sold. Oddly enough, the seller managed to start it before I got it, an it runs fairly good. There is some issues though, as it won't rev over 6800 rpm in first, and 6200 in third. I've been told it may be the fuelfilter, and I guess it's a good place to start. The airfilter looks fine. I know I better mount the intake "thing" and the current situation may not help, but it have to rev higher. And as there's plenty of grunt in the low end, it could be the filter. Hope it's not the air flow meter.

Anyway, it's my first Beemer, after having a GSX 250, XT600, FZR1000 Genesis, Transalp, Falco rebuilt w. Mille R engine, suspension etc. XJ650 and finally my current project, a Rau K from '81. It's having a Z1000A engine, but is just a frame and an engine as for now. Have an Egli swingarm as well. And now there's my BMW, a really nice addition!

Beeing toolmaker with full acces to CNC-machines and all related stuff, I love to make parts to my bikes.

Looking forward to participate in here, it seems like a nice place.

Hi Doohan welcome to the Knuthaus.
Spark plugs can be a reason for not wanting to rev but a good place to start is by having a good read of this document by Ted Verrill http://www.verrill.com/moto/newkbike.shtml and it gives you a known starting point.

Thanks, they should be fine though. Did'nt check myself, but the seller told he bought new, but the current ones where fine, hence he did'nt change.

I'll read the document later on. There's quite a few things to go through, oil, oilfilter is new, I changed it. Checked airfilter, which is good as well. I have no clue about the fuelfilter, so I got a new this morning, will change later today. All stuff, which is nice to know the condition of.

The remain of this season is just about getting to know the Beemer, and getting it to run as it should. Next year my daughter is big enough to get on it, and we'll probably start driving quite a bit.

Anyway, fuelfilter later today, then we'll se.

What history do you know about the bike because although it is unlikely for you to have one there was a special Swiss version which had the rev limiter cut in much lower at aroung 6700rpm I believe to limit the power so it could be sold in Switzland. Thought I should mention this as it could save a lot of hair, maybe.

It's been in Denmark since '85, and the power progressivly decreases. Just looked down the tanks, it looks really fine, no dirt at all. I'll change the filter as I have it, but I guess it's not it.

I've fiddled a bit with the airbox, where is the airflow meter? It may be a bit off or something? Guess I'll look at it later today. Or tomorrow.

The airflow meter sits in the black box above the air filter. It's a bit of a job getting it out.

Thanks guys.. Good news, she's healed! Got the fuelfilter earlier today, and this afternoon I went to my friends at Wrenchmonkees.. I changed the filter there, and it was it. I tried to blow air through the old filter, I could'nt. Now it pulls straight up to fuelcut:santa:

Bad news is I dropped my left mirror/blinker unit, and broke the blinker glass.. Gotta get a new one. But it's ok after getting the engine to run well!

Those mirror indicator units on the RS are very prone to falling off and the more traffic the more likely it is they will attempt suicide.
Many of the owners have made lanyards to prevent total loss by using some stainless braid thet is used for fishing line traces and most have tales of a mangled mirror after a truck ran over them.

Well, Doohan, your friends at Wrenchmonkees do a great job on bike from what I've seen. Thinking about tricking out the old RS?

They do, and I guess the old Beemer will get a new look. But not now, I have a Rau K, that needs to be made first. And that's a big job! I've made some of the parts for the Monkeefist. I designed and made the enginecovers. http://www.wrenchmonkees.com/blog/monkeefist-3/

I guess I don't need 2 projects, so the Beemer will have to be on the road until the Rau is ready. And it won't be the next year or more..

Rick: Good idea, think I'll do the same, when I get a new glass. I were pretty annoyed, when it happened! But hey, the engine pulls as it should now, that's great!

That's awesome! Kudos to you, and the monkees for the handiwork. That XJR turned out great!
If Yamaha donates an MT-09 for you guys to tinker with, let me know? bounce

Thanks. It's been nice to make theese parts, and to see the final result. I made the headlamp as well. Disigned it and milled it on the CNC.

I want a V-Max, it could be awesome, but I hear you!

Gotta do some work on the Beemer this winter, probably on the frontend. I want to be able to have my daugther as passenger, but I don't need the fairing.. Or I could use a smaller one. Thinking of a chopped down version of the original, mounted on the fork itself. And I wanna make a new housing for the instruments, or maybe find a new one. Maybe this one: Motogadget if I can get the different lights working. I want the fuel lamps and stuff.

If anyone has a broken frontfairing laying around, I'd like to buy it for chopping. Condition don't matter..

That's a preeeetty expensive dial, but I guess you can get some discount, hehehe...

I've considered a Vmax myself, but the lure of a new bike is tempting.

Thanks, K-Bike.

Erman: Not sure I'll get discount, we'll see. Well, a bit, but I don't expect much. I think it could be cool to keep the original instruments, but in a new house. Would be fairly easy to make one of aluminium.. Does anyone have a broken one to donate for testing? Want to design a new house, could be quite cool.

But first, I just want to enjoy my Beemer.. It's a good ride!

Yes! Just passed tho MOT today, despite brakediscs were too thin. I'm gonna change them this winter, but it were nice to get the bike approved, in order to get it registered. Now I don't have to get a new MOT untill I sell it, it's nice.

1000-1100 gbp, plus like 90 gbp for the MOT and registration. It's a bit more than 1/3 of normal price for theese bikes here in Denmark. The registration fee makes bikes really expensive!

My 84 RT had an original frame number that was overstamped by BMW with a new number. I am not sure of the history but I recall some factory swapping out of parts from finished bikes. It is quite possible that a Swiss specification ended up in Denmark as a special import or a simple error. My new number is 22575 and the old one is just over 18000 I think.

Thanks, but is was the fuel filter. It was pretty much closed, a new one did the trick. Now the bike works as it should Very Happy

awesome, fix, must check my filter It has the inley facing up hence can't use the bottom few litres, 280km range max before starvation symptoms lurch in. May turn the filter ove, but I guess it keeps the inlet well our of any contamination / dirty fuel.
