Hi all. Just signed up.Have recently purchased a K75,had an R100CS which I put under a lorry in 1987 and ended up in a coma in Dr. Steevens for three months.I'm a lot older and slower now.
Love the bike. She's an 87 model but with only 62k on the clock drives like new.Very smooth.
Have to say there's way more traffic now than when I last rode bikes...

Hi Colm,

Sorry to hear about the 1987 incident, not good.

The K75 is a good purchase.....88KE is in Gorey and also recently acquired a K75 so you are in good company. He knows the K well and you will find everyone very helpful.

Don't be afraid to ask questions etc, also have a read of the section on the home page about 'you have just bought a K, what to do next'.

Going from 1987 traffic levels have doubled, the difference is significant with a lot of safety issues. If you have not been on a bike in all this time just be careful. Did you keep your licence up?

You will probably notice a good active Irish Eccentrics group here and it is always nice to have a new K in it. You are within an hour of most of us and we meet up occasionally down at Stradbally in Laois for breakfast and a run. Nothing formal, but in all about 20 K owners altogether and about 10-12 showing up although we had 14 on the Saturday after Christmas. We will probably be meeting up around Patricks weekend with Saturday rather than Sunday being the preferred days for meeting up.

Welcome Colm. The K75 is gaining the appreciation that was sadly lacking back in the day. Good choice.

Very Happy Hi Colm and very welcome to the forum !
Take care in traffic; keep in mind that a biker has to look for two !
'Always expecting the unexpected' is a good state of mind ?!

Colm,

If you PM me an email address I will add you to my list of contacts as I seem to have everyone on the Irish Eccentrics on it. Its all very informal but we do meet up from time to time and the banter is great. 88KE also recently added a K75 to his K100 and is presently doing some serious work to them.

We organise a few meet ups and often use Stradbally for a pre run breakfast as its reasonably central for us.

There is an Adventure Bikers Rally at Meelmore up near Comberjohn at end of May and both Tom Foley and myself have signed up for it. Its a nice camping weekend on a great campsite and a Saturday night BBQ organised. Some are not into camping due to the vagaries of our weather so there is a B&B alternative.

Looking forward to meeting up at some point. Looks like Saturday of Patricks weekend is a likely contender.

Olaf.

Welcome Colm, good to have you along. The K75 I acquired late last year is awaiting a bit of tarting up and is currently being used as a presentation stand for my dust collection!

Like a lot of members on the forum I too had an absence from bike riding for about 15 years. I decided to book a couple of sessions with a good ROSPA certified insructor and I can honestly say it was more than worth the money in terms of adjusting my thinking and restoring my confidence in the busier traffic conditions on our roads these days. It will cost you a lot less than the bike and the gear but worth as much to your safety and enjoyment ( & the latter is what it's all about!)

Hope to see you out and about.

Will
