Life and death a great bike....bought June 2012 (5th owner, 73k miles). Take 2- Hopefully, with images this time (my bad)

Refurb'd, maintained, resprayed and ready to go in Jan 2013....

G Reg plate - in the UK that means 1990 vintage

...and a grand day out to the seaside (Durdle Door, Dorset, UK - July 2013)

...and then, in Bristol UK at 07:45am 12 Nov 13, in a split second a motorist turning right slams into the side and it's all over and "beyond economical repair".

Very sad day...K100'd after 89k miles..... but the parts ride on and I am hooKed on K's and riding K100 No. 2 (with some K100 No.1 transplants). The silly bit was that it was the red car emerging that was the one I thought was going to give me trouble - not the white one which appeared from no where and took me out. At least I had the presence of mind to take photos, exchange details and move the bike, before being wheeled off in an ambulance!

Sorry Al,

Don't know why you don't see the pics - maybe I'm posting them all wrong or they are too big for the site? Pics appear on the post when I open it though.

Sad news about the K-bike.

As for the images, the URL links to your pictures are munged which is why they are not being displayed.  The IMG code reads:
webkit-fake-url://B1025E77-EC01-4918-A515-73C95984F1CF/application.pdf

They should begin with html://..  Check your image hosting site for the real URL.

Ouch, that's not good.  How badly were you hurt? Your anticipation that the red car might pull out on must have done you some favours, despite the driver of the white car being the real problem.  Sadly, there are times when it still goes wrong for you even though you have done all you can be expected to do.

I hope that you are soon back on the road.

You're right, no matter how defensively you ride, sometimes there is just nowhere to go an there is just not enough road left to stop on. Impact speed was quite low, but it still threw me through the bike screen and dumped me on the road on my right shoulder, breaking my collar bone in the process. Police and Paramedics on the scene were first class and you can't beat adrenaline as a pain killer...until it wears off!

Bone healed quite quickly, but some tendon injury still giving a bit of bother and keeping the physio busy, however 10 weeks after the accident I was back riding again - on my new K100LT. My biggest worry was whether I would have any issues getting the new bike on and off the centre stand without dropping it but everything has been fine.

It was just a very sad day, having breathed new life into the bike, for it to end it's days this way.

Hi Paul

Great photos and story - even at the end. Glad you are OK - by far the most important thing!

As xpc said, the red car and anticipation it might pull out had you alert which counts for everything. The thing about defensive riding is exactly that, it doesn't quite eliminate all collisions, but it most certain eliminates a lot and the remaining ones are much reduced in severity. It's quite the case that in anticipating the red car that you adjusted to the risk and suffered less than you might have.

Its good to get back on a bike too, for what its worth I find it hasn't dented my enjoyment at all. I have always been conscious of what happens behind and in front as I have three times been shunted from behind, once at a red traffic light in broad daylight, once stopped for a lollipop lady at a school crossing, broad daylight, and then on the bike at a junction, car driver from behind said he was dazzled. It was sunny but it was also a 30mph zone with traffic lights and two roads on the left. Its hard to see how any of them could have been avoided.

It was a nice K and hard to know but it seems it was mostly plastic damage. Still costs to repair.

I hope you get some good rides in this year.
