Howdy,

I would like a Ventura type rack for my K100.

There are none second hand for sale anywhere that I can find. Anyone got one?

Failing that, is there anyone that is able to make me a similar type of thing? I just need a sturdy rear rack that a swag or a duffel bag of gear can strap onto securely and easily.

The ventura uses the Z bracket mounts for its mounting points. Ive seen a bike with what looks like a DIY frame that is similar to the ventura and it used flat bar for the brackets. The flat bar was mounted to the Z mounts and had a bit of round tube welded to it to take the rack.

Oh and of course there money here, not just good will.

Do you mean something like this
WANTED: Someone to make me a rear rack Dscf0410
and no it isn't for sale at any price but I could make one that is similar. It is for my Kawasaki z1300 and is genuine for the period. As for price, I would have to work it out with a stick.

Hey flood
Didn't I just buy a Ventura rack for the k1100 from you?
I gather it did not fit you bike
I've got a gear sack rack (off a bike unknown ) I'm sure that it could be adjusted to fit, free if you want it

nah mate....the 1100 and 100 are different in the rear.

Almost came to blows with a bloke about this today until I made him try and fit an 1100 rack to a 100. The 1100's pannier rack mounting points are welded about 25mm further out than on the 100. This is because the paralever is wider etc. The basic frame skeleton is the same though.

Could have made the 1100 Venture rack fit, but not without severe hacking etc and I dont have a welder anymore.

Thanks for the offer. Im going to punt it on over to mr GroverK though who is on the prowl for that exact thing.

I dont have access to a vise, welder, bench grinder etc etc at this stage and need luggage NOW and came upon a nice 2nd hand set of H&B stuff for a reasonable price so bugger it

Cheers

Well at least you get a good set of panniers, heaps better than the original BMW.

Thanks for the offer Rick, and those who have thrown in their voices. Wink

Ended up getting these puppies today for a bit of a bargain I think.

I reckon the panniers are brand new to be honest.    WANTED: Someone to make me a rear rack 212902

I filled one to the brim and its bang on 30L. Would have preferred the 40L model, but alas, you cant win em all.

Floyd,

The design is a replica of the BMW early R series rack.

The first thing I would do before fitting them, is weld a gusset to support the arm that attaches from the rear foot pedal to the rectangular frame bit.  I would just about guarantee that after you load them up and hit your first decent bump in the road, they WILL crack.  We all overload our panniers in this part of the world.  Any pannier frames that have not cracked at some stage, have never had any gear in them.  They have the rear support which is good.

Just a matter of time...... Twisted Evil   Unless of course you carry nothing heavier than ladies underwear in your panniers.

Cheers, Dave.

hope it works out for you floyd , maybe some minor adjustments to your pannier frame to fit the peg plates.
I have a welder and gear , if you need , I can bundle it up in the Kart and call a workshop day together for you.
Mal, as Floyd mentioned I am on the lookout for a gearsack rack, ( not Ventura ) to use as a back rest for my youngster on the Tassie trip.
PM if you still have it up for offer, I wouldn't mind talking business, money is a worry , but willing to part with some. :pirat:

Floyd,  This ADVrider thread might be interesting from a design consideration standpoint.  The person needed to beef up the K1100 tail section to bear the weight of a fuel cell.  Your loading requirements might dictate the same necessity for the rack.  It's good to see her solution.

A mildly useless contribution as Floyd has already solved his problem, but I mounted a set of Givis on LFB. Originally I considered doing something similar to the ADVRider thread link above because I wanted the panniers as low as possible but then the rack wouldn't fit. Eventually I decided it was the long way round for the simpler solution of making a pair of side risers out of 5mm ally. The side risers also gave me somewhere to hang the shackle. I used a Givi universal mounting kit, vastly over-engineered a crossbrace that wraps round the inside of the mudguard and used that as a place to mount a stainless steel fender extender (the lower light is a fog light). The fender extender stops the crap from being thrown up the numberplate and under the topbox. If anyone mentions the crap on the rest of the bike then I'm gonna sulk. Smile
