Does any sharped-eyed forum member recognise it?

This turned up at the shop today (sold). K1200i10

It's for sale. It runs well and is clean. Do I need it? Hell no. Would I like it? Sure.

Hint. K1200/1100RS with homemade cruise and LEDs.

Elvis owned a Hardly Davidson that was gifted by Jimmy Hendrix. It had a Plate under the seat with a Birthday message.
I guy I worked in the same company with inherited the bike not knowing anything about it.
When he started to restore the bike he found the Plate and reported the bike to HD.
They had been looking for this bike for a while and bought it from him and also gave him a token gesture job with HD as a sale rep riding new bikes to shops for demos in the USA.

This information came to me second hand as I was in a different department and never knew the guy who legend has it left the company the same day the offer came.

Now workplace stories are often blown up and modified for effect so we shall call this based on a possibly true story.

Well it looks like my new purchase, but as it is on another continent, I am going to guess at Mr Duck.

Bingo! But Mr Duck has not owned it for some years now. However, his handiwork clearly shows.

I'm not sure who she is.

Some details: the current owner doesn't have time to ride/wifey doesn't want to ride and so the bike is for sale. It was meant to be 'consigned' to the shop but the sales manager doesn't think a high mileage K (albeit, very clean with 119,500 miles) will sell easily at this time of the year. It's got a few minor oil leaks, slightly loose bobbins (typical for these) on the front brake discs, components with corrosion on them, likely from lack of use, and a few scratches commensurate with its age and mileage. But it has some pedigree given that Duck owned it - though from his '09 article he didn't 'build' it.

It's a K1200LT engine in a stock K1100RS with powdercoated wheels, different fork springs, Duck's simple and efficient electronic cruise operated by an LT's windscreen rocker switch, a host of LEDs throughout, and a nice little oval driving light just under the main lamp. Plus, that blue colour just shivers me timbers against the black of the driveline and wheels.

If anyone's interested I'll get back to you with a price. That is if it doesn't make it home to my garage this weekend first.

The skinny is that it's a K1200LT torque master long block with K1100RS ECU, injection and ancillaries. The K12 'motor' has just 45,000 miles on it and the bike has a total of 119,500 miles, but you'd not know it by looking. The owner has kept it on a trickle charger most of the past four years, doesn't get out to ride wit the kiddies coming along as they do, etc., and has his eye on a classic Porsche roadster with wifey's nodding approval in its stead. The BMW 690 Astralblau paint is better in person than in photos, it's that noice.

I really enjoy riding my long, heavy, fast and smooth '03 K1200GT. My pillion prefers this one over all of my bikes for long-distance comfort, including over the R1150RT. I reckon a good part of her preference is the plushy, heated seat on cold mornings, but also, she's long-legged and there's room on the back for her, standard footpeg position and all.

This K12/11RS doesn't have too high of an asking price, though with due respect I understand about the reputation and of the story of two Scots having inventing copper wire from a penny...

I am not adding a fourth bike to my US garage this year. The owner will take $2200 with accessories and this is a fair deal. I have no stake in this bike or its sale. PM me asap if you're seriously interested and I'll pass along his name and contact info...

I picked a girl who encourages my moto eccentricities rather than dissing them. On a quiet Sunday it doesn't take more than a nudge towards the riding gear for her to suggest 'Let's go for a ride today!' She used to ride Hardlies back in the day so is not new to bikingdom. I heard her mention something about going for a rider training class a coupla weeks back. I know it'd be like learning to fly in the space shuttle but I am deliberately making the seat height on the K100 nuddie extra low. She's got a 34" inseam but with feet flat she'll feel better, more secure.

Bonus.

She's been driving to the bus terminal so she can transit to work into Seattle (50 kms away) in an old purple Dodge Neon with a bad case of paint exzema and many car park dents. She's now in an AWD CR-V. A single Honda for another Beemer? A good deal in our household.

It's O-Fish-Ull. I have paid for it, rego'd it and got the vehicle title application in to the Washington state DMV. If it wasn't literally bucketing down with rain, and the bike so bloody sparkly, I'd have ridden it home from work this arvo. Instead it's at work, safe and dry along with a hundred other motorbikes in the workshop warehouse. The DMV wanted to value it at over Seven Grand - and tax me accordingly - until I showed them the bill of sale for $1,900 and argued that it is in "very average condition" and has over 119,000 miles on the odo. It ended up costing me only $221 to swap the title, get the rego transferred to my name and pay the near-10% state tax. I don't know whether I should be laughing or crying over how inexpensive it is in comparo to OZ.
