Got a K75 which had a broken shaft but original shaft didn`t come with bike. Someone before me stripped it and the owner wasn`t prepared to pay to repair it .
Anyway, I got a used shaft on ebay some time ago, but didn`t get around to fitting it until today.
My question is, are there different length shafts as mine seems to be too short for the swingarm.
it is 290mm long and doesn`t reach the end of the swingarm when fitted. Too short to connect to final drive.
Any help or wiseass comments gratefully received  Laughing Laughing
Happy New Year and safe riding

Sean

What year and last 7 digits of the VIN# for your K75?
The design of the final drive changed over the years (at least the splines count, but don't think the length was modified)

AFAIK all the K100 & K75 except the 16v K100RS had the same length shaft. You may have the front section of a K100/K1100 16v Paralever shaft.  The K75 shaft will have about 2.5 inches of splined shaft protruding from the fatter front section where the 16v shaft only has 3/4 inch.

I had an idea all K75 were 20 spline. K100 changed from 16 to 20 spline. I think 88KE put shaft and final drive from K75 on to K100LT.

All the K75 had 20 spline. The 16 to 20 spline change came about Christmas 1985. Santa had 6 white Beemers pulling it that year and they couldn't have a shaft failure at that event.
The Aussies will see the humour or is Rolf of the menu nowdays.

Just measured two K75 shafts and the length should be 327mm.  Assume you have the uni-joint fitted to your shaft?

Thanks for all replies

Vin number 6218657
Reg no F 870 NNO

This bike has 16 splines on gearbox output shaft and 20 splines on final drive
The shaft I got matches these but is too short at 290mm total length
Have thought about extending it but might cause vibration

sean    are you sure about that ?

as far as I have read in here, all output shafts  from all the gearboxes ,  across all years were 20 spline

might pay to count again   after viewing a few posts in the forum.....there are many ....use the "search" feature  and type in  "drive shaft"

not trying to distract you from the search and eventual achievement ,,,just pays to be informed about what you are looking for

good luck  !!

It's an 8th month of '88 standard K75 and as such should have a 20 spline 'shaft.

The shaft you have is the front half of a paralever shaft and is easily mistaken as they are a 20 spline on the rear but not as long as a monolever shaft.
All the K75, 100 and K1100 had 16 splines on the gearbox end of the drive shaft.  The 20 spline refers to the rear spline at the rear drive and used to be a 16 spline till about Christmas 1985 when the K100 changed to a 20 spline at the rear drive.
All K75 had a 20 spline rear drive from the day they hit the streets.

Another difference between the mono and paralever shaft beside the length
is that the monolever is stepped at the rear end after the rubber joint.

The paralever is just one dia at this part, this part is also much shorter on
a paralever ~20-25 mm.
