Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to the K-bikes and I think a lot of the starting issue diagnostic threads are leading me in the wrong direction. Hoping someone can help here!

I had a running bike a week or two ago, everything was good. I got the tank painted and decided it was a good time to do some other work on the bike. I ended up doing a lot of cleaning of the engine and wiring because it was filty. I also ended up changing the clutch.
I put it all back together, basically like it was before. The only difference is the new clutch and an intake.

Ignition on and kill switch on, I press the start button and only the fuel pump goes, but the bike doesn't turn over.

Whats particularly odd is that it I hold the start button, but the flick either the ignition or kill switch off and on, the bike *sometimes* turns over for a second or two, then stops.

I'm thinking that maybe the FICU or ICU aren't getting a signal needed to allow the bike to start. I'm a bit overwhelmed, so it would be great if anyone had any other thoughts.

Thanks in advance,
Nicky

Did you do a loom=off cleaning?
Got all the connectors back in place, and pressed together well?

Yea the loom came off. Everything seems to be well connected.

There are 1 or 2 connectors that I can't find a home for. A white, flat, male, 4 pin connector on the right side.

Some connectors are there for accesoires, looks like your K for sure don't have them Wink

Would check again on the connector for the right hand switch, as a good start (double Very Happy  )

I figured it was for accessories.

I actually checked the right hand switch connector, cleaned with contact cleaner. No help.

Is there a list somewhere of which sensors and circuits are all required to make the bike run?

Check "Starter"  https://www.kforum-tech.com/Downloads/electrical/diagrams/interactive_diagrams.htm

Big connector on the EFI is plugged in well?
Also the connector on the ICU? Goes in deep.....

Got the big earthline from the gearbox to the battery correct?
All earthlines correct under the tank?

If the bike ran before, I can't imagine that parts go to bikeheaven in the rebuild Smile

Hi

Make certain your battery has sufficient charge.
Clean all connectors including the earth point under the petrol tank.
All connectors should be clean and making a good connection.
Check the fuel injection unit connector, located above the battery.
The battery must have sufficient charge. If your battery is crap, recharge or replace.
Make sure all relays are in their correct position.
The fuel hoses must be in their correct position.
Refer to the manuals included in the “how to” section of this forum.
Perhaps check all the connectors for continuity. Make sure the component is unplugged from the connectors before you apply a multimeter.
Good luck.....

Hey all.

I ended up cleaning the ignition signal unit with contact cleaner as well as the ignition control unit. The control unit might have had moisture in it from the initial cleaning I did. It doesn't seem like it's possible to completely disassemble it, but I pried it open a bit and sprayed contact cleaner aggressively in it to irradicate moisture.

Plugged it all back in and it seems like it's turning over now! I'm letting it dry over night and we will see what happens. Fingers crossed.

What is my best bet for replacing this thing? I noticed new ones are available on EME but only for newer model bikes. These won't work on mine?
