First ride of the day the speedo and mileometer don't work. After a couple of miles they lazily begins to work then ok for rest of ride. Next day the same thing. Any suggestions?

1) Check the speedo sensor connector under the right side cover: Unplug it, inspect for corrosion, plug back together securely.

2) Pull the speedo sensor from the final drive and make sure that it's clean.

Thanks Duck. Will check in the next couple of days. The bike had stood unused for a number of years before purchase so hopefully just a poor connection.
