the idle switch is faulty. i followed the help on this site and when i unplug the switch it starts. i need to replace it. can anyone help i,m a complete novice and understand i have to remove tank. any help will be appriecated. i have k100rt 1987 model

You can ride without the switch plugged in. The only draw back is that your engine could backfire when you decelerate and you may lose a bit of engine brake.
Few riders on this site have permanently disconnected this switch.

You have to remove the part of the fairing to remove the tank.

AFAIK it shouldn`t be necessary to remove the tank, to change the throttle position switch?

true words there inge ....just remove the coils cover for easier access of the tps at the end of the throttle bodies ? and possibly the knee guards ?

Time for me to retire idle switch 652573

This is true that the switch has the plug with the &%%$#@! retaining wire on it.
