Hello, I need an advice from you more experienced K people. Fuel level sender on my old K 100 /1983 doesnt work. If I reapir or change would it work on newer instruments with only 1 fuel light? My original instruments had 2 fuel lights (yellow and red) now I have 1986 model with only 1 (red) light. Does the early sender fits with next generation instruments.

Regards

nino ..i dont think that the early series of instruments are compatible with the wiring of the later series of fuel senders ......but the the early series meters could be modified to deal with the later series sender ...but im afraid later series instruments may not be capable to be modified to the early series sender

well thats my thoughts

I had a similar problem with my 10/83 bike. I got a used sender unit from a wrecker and the problem went away. The sender unit for the early bikes is different...a long cylinder, the newer models are short and round. They cannot be interchanged as the hole in the tank in very different. In fact the two tanks..up to about 85 and then after are slightly different sizes.
If you change the sender unit remember to put a new gasket on the unit for a perfect seal. I ended up getting an O ring from a tractor dealer...much cheaper. However you must get an O ring which is resistant to fuel
Good luck.
