Comberjohn posted in May:

I see that a few others are talking about having a get together to mark the 30th anniversary of the K over this summer.
What about we organise something in the 'ould sod' to mark the occasion too?
Any feedback on dates, place and availability?
Plenty of notice to organise if we start now.
I'll fix the weather as usual.

Anyway, following a few PMs last night we realised we had our first meet up at Stradbally on Saturday 11th August last year and had a really great day. One thing led to another, we both realised that Saturday 10th August is free for both of us with a suggestion that we reconvene at Stradbally......

So, as the saying goes, we are on. I do know the proposed date suits quite a few people but its hard to suit everyone so here goes....

Saturday 10th August, Stradbally Fayre, say 9.30am [?] for breakfast. Route to be decided. 88KE provided an excellent route last year and of course a good lunch venue at Glendalough.

I hope I am not leaving anyone out of the list below. See who we can get and if we can add some more names.....

Comberjohn

For anyone who does not know the location Stradbally is located on the Portlaoise [M8] to Carlow road [N80] approx 10km from the M8. Stradbally Fayre is on the left as you arrive in Stradbally, parking outside and a petrol station almost next door. It was about as central as we could find, 140 miles from Comberjohn who had longest run last year. Cork was about 120 miles.

While we are on the subject a possible trip up North for September was mentioned. I really enjoyed last year so plan on going anyway. Should we make plans for another one and take in the Mourne Drive??

Anyone visiting Ireland on holidays? Stradbally is well placed with perfect timing for breakfast, a run and then head to afternoon or evening ferry at Rosslare/Dublin/Belfast.

Anyone like to come over from Wales for a day/weekend trip? Ferry arrives at Rosslare [Fishguard/Pembroke] or Dublin [Holyhead] approx 7am with a nice run to Stradbally and some lovely routes...Ferry leaves approx 9pm to arrive back in Wales approx 12.30 - 1.00am.....

PM me for any travel information...

92KK......

Unfortunately I cannot make the 10th.  I am on holidays (in the car!) with SWMBO.  We will be in athlone that day, on the way back from Belfast, but I don't think she would appreciate the early start and detour required.

Hopefully I'll make the next one.

A trip up north in September sounds good though.

Corkboy,

An excellent idea.....North is stunning and if the weather is even reasonable the camp site Comberjohn recommended is really a perfect place to be. If camping is not for you plenty of excellent B&B close by too. We had an early breakfast in Hillsborough which is really worth a day of its own.

Bjorn may be on for North too.......

I've just realised that I can't get away early enough to make it to Stradbally for breakfast but I'm keen to meet up with everyone.
Depending on the route for the run after breakfast I intend to try and meet up with the rest of you on the road.
So I'm still in, sort of.

Any suggestions on a route?
I had a really nice run through the Sally Gap and along Military Road a few weeks ago. Could end up having lunch at Glendalough again.
Maybe some locals could fill in the gaps.
Need to plan where I'm going to meet up with the rest of you as I'll be running a bit behind the rest and have to miss the breakfast.
Meantime its off to Sligo tomorrow for a few more photos for the rally.

Comberjohn that route might take some of those from the south and west too far east for a day run.

I have an idea for some lovely roads and a route that would take us up over the slieve bloom mountains (hills) and finish in Kildare or Newbridge for those heading back S.W. - those heading E.N. could go on to Blessington (not far x country) and do the sally gap if they wished.

Having trouble with my connection at the moment will post a map tomorrow when it improves.

This looks excellent!! Sally Gap is worth it too so maybe we figure both. Cross country to Blessington would make a nice coffee stop a bit like The Forge last time.

If we do breakfast 9.30 are we looking at 10.30-10-45 off?

Bjorn Pat O'D and 92KK can meet up Cork. Any suggestions? Bjorn is travelling from Killeagh, I will be from Carrigaline. I would go for about 7.00 to allow time for getting gassed up before breakfast. Great road on a nice day. The part from Abbeyleix across to Stradbally is a nice start to the day. PM me and I will pass on contact details.

I have passed my number to quite a few fellow members and have no problem with an emergency number being passed on. I guess if something untoward were to happen it would. Be better and less alarming for someone if a phone call to be made by one of us rather than a third party such as police.

We did get a wake up on that last year but Bjorn was able to make his own call home afterwards. So was I when I was hit from behind. Pause for thought.

In your phone put a new number under the name ICE (In Case of Emergency.
That's the first place someone will look.

I will act as moderator for personal details if you like.

If it's acceptable to all just email me your details ie name and number of person or person's to contact.
I will write them into a notebook including my own and if anything happens you'll know where to find it.

John

You will be most welcome indeed and we would love to see you. You will most likely have the most recent bike but you will be in good vintage company.

I am in Pallasgreen quite a lot lately. A lovely place indeed. We just completed a restoration of the church at Nicker and right now just doing the same at the old schoolhouse there. Small world. We would probably head up the M7 but you would have a nice straight run down to Cahir or Cashel.

PM me and we can sort times. I suggested to Bjorn about leaving Cork around 7am, leaves time for refuel and park up.

88KE any thoughts to camping in Glen of Aherlow on Saturday night???

The latest list. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Preliminary weather is looking good too. 88KE mentioned a camping option for Saturday night and possibly the Vee on Sunday. Any takers....?

 Aug 2013 run

Any one wishing to do the Sally Gap can carry on cross country from Newbridge to Blessington.

Anyone else got a suggestion on routes?

Bumping up the map! Thanks 88KE

Looking forward to Saturday, Just recently fitted new oil seals in the front suspension, then noticed that the front master cylinder (after 17 years use) also needs
replacing:(

Should be up and running by tomorrow - see you all on Saturday.Very Happy

Wow. Looking good guys. Fingers crossed for fine weather and dry roads.
Don't forget to obey these three simple forum rules for meetings.
1. take photos
2. Take more photos
3. See rule 1

I have mentioned it elsewhere and I believe in Ireland data downloads can be a bit of a problem? but GLYMPSE is fantastic for keeping track of people.
Apart from the data it is free.

Enjoy the rides

As I had mentioned to Olaf, I'm not going to get away as early as I had hoped and will have to try and meet along the way somewhere.
I reckon on being in the area around noon. Are you keeping to the planned route and how far round do you expect to be around then?
The entire route is about 2 hours in total and I don't want to drive all the way down just to meet up at the end!
Any guidance guys?

Hi John

I reckon with a 9.30 breakfast we are likely to be on our way about 10.45-11am with everyone gassed up.

Will's route takes us north across the M7 in your direction. i can pm my number to you so we can link up. I reckon we could meet up at the lunch stop or somewhere before lunch. i will check with Will on lunch stop proposal!

Olaf

@Corkboy wrote:Unfortunately I cannot make the 10th.  I am on holidays (in the car!) with SWMBO.  We will be in athlone that day, on the way back from Belfast, but I don't think she would appreciate the early start and detour required.

Hopefully I'll make the next one.

A trip up north in September sounds good though.
Check out our route.......I think our paths may cross on Saturday.....Keep the thoughts for September too. I am on for camping up north again and we may have more takers...!!!
