If it is any consolation most of us are not mechanics either, we learn as we go along. And the help of most of the members here means screw ups are few and far between and good help is only a few keystrokes away.
My sons bike battery was flat last night. He used his iPhone to post a request for help. Had a response in under 10 minutes and fully sorted within an hour. I reckon that's faster than a breakdown service. We are a bit further apart but you will get technical help very quickly from Australia to Nova Scotia and anywhere in between.
