Well, I am certainly getting to know this bike, inside and out! After fixing the tank leak, opening up the starter relay, ignition switch, and kill switch to clean/repair ... now I have noticed this odd issue.

The fan comes on relatively soon after running the bike. I don't think that is an issue, but I noticed that when I put the turn indicator on in either direction, the fan seems to cycle with the flashing (?!?). Doesn't seem quite right to me.

Then, the last time I rode the bike, the temp warning light started to glow ... low at first, but then much brighter. When I got home, I checked coolant level and quality and both were fine.

Any thoughts on what to look at?

I could be wrong but my instinct is you have some earthing issues. There is an earthing point under the tank, a collection of brown wires bolted to the frame on the left of the spine tube. These need to be all cleaned off and refitted. There is also one from the battery to the gearbox. This takes a little time but no costs involved.

As far as I know the coolant sensor goes to the fan and also to the temperature warning light but two different connections.

Others will know a lot more than me and may have pointers arising from what you have done to the ignition and switches.

That sure is crazy enough to be an Earth problem.

Early models was known to have to less diameter on the ground connection wires
to the relay box.
It was advised to run a additional ground wire from terminal 31 on the fan relay to the central ground point under the tank.

I think you are on to something regarding the grounding. This morning when I was riding, the temp light came on, and when I operated either brake, it went out. I will have to trace all the ground connections and will add a supplemental ground from terminal 31 when I have it apart ...

Glad I found this post. I too have this same electrical gremlin where my fan will cycle with my turn signals. Not all the time, but enough to notice. I'm very new to these bikes but willing to learn. I was wondering if you have gotten any further into fixing this situation or if anyone can give me a good reference or reading material as to what this is all about.

Be nice to Crazy Frog and he will let you in to all the information. Its all on the forum. But a Clymer manual is worth getting too.

My RT is not my first K and after the LT and being on the forum here I decided the best course of action was to take off the tank seat panels battery fairing panels boxes and lower panels and get at all the electrical connections. It sounds daunting but in fact they come off very easily like jig saw pieces and everything is very accessible. I did it on a weekend, Saturday night it looked in bits but Sunday was back together and even had some of the frame painted in that time and all fluids and filters changed, bulb connectors cleaned etc etc. The earths were not clean but were working ok but I still cleaned them all up. Changed the fuel hoses too, they perish and go hard and leak especially if you have removed the gas tank a few times.

The thing about an earth is that if its not working the current will then find some other way to earth and make it look like fairy lights.

+1 on what Olaf has said and check all the fuses with a meter, don't do a visual check as the blade type fuses will go open circuit and not show any sign of blowing.
