found this in the bottom of my tank when I was replaqcing the filter. It was lying on the R/H side where the fuel guage float is. I'm guessing is off the float arm but what's it for.
Its starting to deteriorate.

Nigel, I think it is off the edge of the baffle where the fuel pump is mounted.

OK I can see where that might go. Can't see anything about it in the parts diagrams. It won't stay attached to the baffle. Its dropping shit in my tank.... I'll leave it out.

Also there's a small dia rubber pipe coming up from under the rear of the pump about 250 to 300mm long and just sits loose. Is that how its supposed to be. There's a metal pipe u-bend just inside the filler which goes to the drain cup... looks like its supposed to attach onto that??? Is that where it goes?

+1.....you have two of this, the other one is wrong mounted and seen in
bottom middle of the last picture.

And Your correct about the small rubber hose, it's the breather for the prefilter.

The one in the middle bottom of the last picture is the piece I found in the bottom of my tank. So that's not where it goes? I couldn't see anywhere else for it and the manual diagrams don't indicate this part.
Its started to degrade and is shedding particles into the tank. Will I need to replace this or can I leave it out?

I have bee waiting for a new petro gage from some ware I guess Germany. I ordered one from so Carolina (Long Story).
But the part you have looks like a part of the petro gage. There a long piece that goes with it. The only reason I know is I had mine out to fix a leak (did not work) besides connecting to the fuel pump it also works the lights on the instrument panel for the 7L and 4L lights.
