Sorry to dredge up an old post but I got myself a front 3-spoke 18" K75S wheel off ebay recently and was wondering if the buyer is still on here and got it put on the bike.

Looking the parts fiche between an 85 K100 RS (2 valve) and the K75S, the only difference in the front wheels are that the right side bearing is a larger diameter, and the spacer between that bearing and fork is a different part number.

My axle would not go through the bearings (they looked super rusty and that's probably all it was) so I couldn't test fitment between the forks.  The brake discs bolted right up.

The wheel is at my local bike shop getting new bearings put in right now and I ordered that different spacer (listed as bushing) just in case.

How did yours fit and what did you put it on?

They're a direct swap, it's what's on my red RS pictured below (but with spaced Suzuki discs and 4-piston Brembos).

So you didn't use the different bearing bushing/seal?  The y-spoke wheel ones fit?

According to Max BMW's fische, the left had outside bearing spacer for a y-spoke wheel is
 36 31 1 450 818 BUSH

For the 3-spoke k75s wheel, the equivalent bearing spacer is
36 31 2 311 026 BUSH

This is the spacer outside of the bearing on the left hand side of the wheel (as your sitting on the bike)

When I took my wheel off today it seems that this part has a lot to do with where between the forks the wheel sits.

Perhaps it's just a new part number but the same width.  It would seem that if the wheel spacing is off even a hair, you'd have rotor clearance issues.

G'day boostd4 , when I bought my 3 spoke front it came complete with bearings fitted , on the side that takes the longer wheel spacer the bearing was held in place with a circlip ( snap ring ) , to be able to fit the spacer the pressed on flange that is flush with the end of the spacer needed to be moved up the spacer 2-3 mm to clear the circlip , we did this simply by pressing it in a vice with a large socket to move it , perhaps the other spacer part number is a spacer with the flange shifted a little ? . Anyway it all went in ok with this little hack

The other alternative is to simply break off/remove the pressed-on spacers/flanges. It's easy enough to use a finger to line up the spacer when feeding the spindle back in again. It has another advantage too: the BMW way to change wheel bearings goes something like this -

Remove the tyre
Remove the discs
Bake the bare wheel in a special oven at a set temperature until the bearings fall out
Drop the new bearings in complete with spacer
Put the discs back on with new bolts
Put the tyre back on.

Okayyyy.....

Get rid of those damn stupid flanges and you can drive the bearings out with a drift and a big hammer. IMNSHO there's no competition between the two methods. If you come to change the bearings for the first time, sharpen the end of the drift until it just locates in the  groove between the spacer and the bearing, then hit the drift so that it pushes sideways on the spacer until the flange collapses and the edge of the bearing is exposed. Now drive it out. You may need some wet'n'dry or a fine file to remove any bruises on the spacer.

Beats me why BMW did that. I've never come across that setup on any other European bike or on any Japanese bike.

^^  We're talking about two different things.   Not the spacer between the bearings inside the wheel.  We're talking about the spacers outside the wheel that act as bearing caps and place the wheel between the forks.
