Ouch! Some one just knocked over my beloved 85 K100 Rt with their car. Will need an upper fairing (cracked in 2 places), right side lower (cracked - right where his bumper hit it), a left side mirror (plastic pieces only), left side bag ( bag mount clasp broken, lid cracked), and center/side stand bent. Anyone know if a good source in N. America? Beemer Boneyard has nothing. Can the plastic bits be repaired? I've heard BMW used "unobtainium plastic" of unknown composition. Help!

You paying, or insurance? If insurance, go for good used. If you, may be able to repair with fiberglass, which I am doing right now on a Sprint fairing. Some single panniers on ebay right now, as well as fairing parts.

At the bottom of the download page, you will find a good document (in Italian but with nice pictures) on how to fix the fiberglass fairing.
If you have cracks on the outside, you will have to groove them in order to fill them with resin. The back part should be re-enforced with fiber + resin.
The fairing is made of compressed fiberglass. This is why some people think that this is some sort of plastic or compound material.

Here is a good center stand for sale: K11 center stand on Ebay.

Thanks for the info. The driver is paying. Here in Manitoba we have a socialist govt run insurance scam. They charge us outrageous rates but will write the bike off for a busted mirror. The head of our govt's insurance racket would like to see zero bikes in the province.

Have you seen the insurance rate in Quebec?
First they have a no fault insurance (your private insurance pays for your damage even if you are not at fault).
Second any medical coverage due to a traffic accident is covered under the government insurance. For this reason, this year the license plate for a 25 years old K100 cost $750 per year. I believe by 2012 it will be raise to $900.
A sport bike will cost $2,500 for the license plate + your private insurance for the damages on your bike.
In order to keep the cost of insurance low (??), here in Nova Scotia, the government has struck a deal with the insurance companies and the maximum payment for soft tissues injuries or broken bones is capped at $2,500. Even if you spend a year in the hospital, the insurance will only pay for your lost of salary + a maximum of $2,500 for pain and suffering.
If during the time you are in hospital, you have to hire somebody to do a job that you normally do on your own (cutting your grass or maintaining your house), or have to use a taxi because you cannot drive, your insurance will not assume this cost.
Do you call this a scam.
Yes!

They may charge $750 in Quebec for a license plate, but how much is the actual insurance? Here in Manitoba I believe the plate is only $25, but the actual insurance is over $1800! Same bike: 1985 K100 RT.

We pay for the registration (plates) and compulsory insurance (third party damages). I don't remember what exactly, but it all comes to less than $1000.

However, thank God for socialist countries like Aust where Medicare rules Smile Example: i damaged a few vertebra (don't ask), spent 12 days in hospital spinal ward, CTs, MRIs, X-rays, round the clock care. On discharge, casts and specialists for 3 months ... total cost = $0. Smile Smile

And before anyone around the world jumps in with yes and what are the hospitals in Aus like. I recommend you watch RPA if you get a chance on yopur TV which is filmed at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the standard of care is exemplary and as Ned says it is all part of the Govt's payment for healthcare. It is the only logical way to go especially as Aus is not a particularly highly taxed country.

Now if the other driver is paying get your quotes from Real OEM or one of the other BMW online dealers who have prices for bits. Tot it up and present him with it. Remember insurance is only the drivers alternative to self insurance and paying all costs themselves. Nothing stops you going for full restitution of the bike in the same condition it was before the accident, if it is not your insurer who is paying you do not have to accept write off their liability is not limited to the write off value, that agreement exists only between you and your insurer not you and their insurer. I have very successfully prevented my wife's Volvo from getting written off after an accident that was not her fault. I forced the other insurance company to pay the full cost of fixing it which was far more than write off value.

K-BIKE

Yeah, it kinda did get hi-jacked. Anyways, because its govt run insurance, his insurer is the same as mine. Their only interest is paying out as little as possible.
