Hi,

My name is Sammy Sam and I am from Newcastle N.S.W.

I got my bike license 4 months ago riding a little 99 DT175.

I asked a mate of mine who owns around 15 or so bikes, (ranging from KTM dirt bikes & Triumph cafe racers to soft-tail Harley cruisers and everything in between) what bike I should get. He said he has been eyeing off these K100's for a while and I should get in on it.

I looked up the bike on google images and knew this is what I wanted/became obsessed.

I found ripper of a deal on Gumtree for this 88 stationary brick that was said to run (it has 130,000 k's on it, I don't think it was pushed that far).
New to bikes & buys an 88 brick thats not running. 201
$800 AU inc. delivery.

I was at work when she was delivered and the wife called and told me "This wont start" and laughed. My 4 year old daughter was heard in the background  crying " Its not purple or pink. I hate it"...

When I got home I stripped it back a little to check the work load. As a first time bike restorer I know I have a lot to learn and do. New to bikes & buys an 88 brick thats not running. Bike_0428

I am currently at week 3 of the build and with help from this forum, a pdf K100 repair manual and youtube, I have installed a new fuel pump, filter and fuel lines. replaced spark plugs and cleaned out the injectors. changed the oil and filter and got the bike started.

this success was short lived though. After getting her started I took it for a ride down the street to check the gears and get a feel for what next. the bike has no working brakes (not the current problem) it stopped running. After replacing the blown fuel pump fuse a couple of times I found the fuel pump not working.

So that is were I am up to...       ...Thanks for the help so far...

Hi sammy welcome to the forum.

The pump probably has a bit of dirt jaming it. They are very sensitive to that.
Remove it and try running it backwards in some fuel.
Make sure the pre pump filter is put on correctly and the hose from the filter is either blocked off or on the alloy tube up near the filler.

Welcome Sammy, there are a few of us in the Newcastle/Hunter Valley region. Keep an eye on the forum for posts about coffee meet ups so we can introduce ourselves (and come along in any conveyance you have if your bike is not running at the time).

Good luck with your project - you will get it sorted with the help on here.

Cheers

I need to:
reupholster the seat, or new one.
front brake master cylinder rebuild kit ( leaking after being cleaned to function )
rear disc ( if anyone can help point me in the right direction )
right side cover
and then rego.

so close now ...

I have a reupholsted seat and a right side cover. PM if you want them.
The discs are prooving difficult to get in good condition. Try looking for a K1100 or K1200 they are the same fitting and a couple of mm thicker. The master cylinder kit is available from Motobins in UK which is much cheaper than anywhere in Oz

try k-model beemer bits in bega has brand new rear drilled discs and new pads for $130 + freight all you have to do is remove the old disc from the carrier by cutting off the 12 rivets and using the unbrako bolts and nyloc nuts supplied bolt the new disc on and you have a NEW rear disc graeme is a wealth of knowledge and has a fairly good selection of parts at reasonable prices , i think he has a really good disc already to bolt on with new pads for the same price   your choice
