THE NEW TOY 87 K100rt has a ignition problem , the box /connection under the key has come loose , the previous owner when starting said he dropped the black box / cover (under key ) then inserted a flat screw driver and turned it to start the bike (version of hot wiring it ,he bought as a project and only started it now and then) ,understand has been a common prob with the k1 , what needs to be renewed the key assemberly or where the key lever fits in or the whole lot and what would it be listed as on munichs website , tried key / ignition etc

Munich has the switch part but not the lock and for $195 its a bit rich to say the least.
However Motobins in the UK has not had them for quite a while so I would say that Munich is manufacturing them in China.
I have a complete set that is fuel cap ignition lock with switch and a seat lock with a key to fit.
PM me if you wish to go further.

there is a tiny grub screw that attaches the switch part to the lock body ,  perhaps this has been lost ?

there are other topics with pictures of the switch and assembly , which could help see how it all should go together .

ricks offer would be the fast fix ,

but check out the pics to aid in the fitting etc

try the search feature .

good luck

If the grubscrew has gone awol then consider using a 10x3mm allen screw instead. Much easier to get out when needed.

Ah, well, you were dealing with Japanese cheese there. I never went anywhere near that stuff without an impact driver in one hand and a BFH in the other. As for the K... most of LFB is now held together with allen bolts except where it ain't possible e.g. main forward engine bolts which also hold the crashbars.

The big problem with what you refer to as Philips head is that they are not Philips head but Japans version and called Pozidrive and not quite the same as Philips head. The only place I could ever get Pozidrive tools was either Suzuki or Honda genuine tools and they were ridiculously priced and often unavailable. AFAIK they are still very hard to source.

yep and 2nd biggest prob was the prev owners butchery ,thank god for drill bits and ezy outs ,the inventor of the allan head deserves a medal , amazing nowdays when you buy a tool set you get all these funny / strange shaped screw driver bits . makes you wonder if there are that many strange shaped farseners in use

What's the teacher gonna say, Rick.......you haven't done your homework.

We all know the Phillips head screws as it is the one used on our bikes.

The Pozidriv head have an extra square in the center of the cross, and is
identified by a stripe/line between the wings of the cross.
(The Pozidriv patent is hold/owned by Phillips screw company).

These guys IGNITION Liten_10use a different standard which looks close to the Phillips
head but the centre of the cross have a more straight cut, and is identified
by a small punch mark at the head ......these is called a JIS head.
(A Phillips screwdriver which is slightly camfered will slip more easily than
a screwdriver which is designed for the JIS head).

To bad that most of the automotive/bike industry mostly use Torx these days, then.

blast it ...those manufacture guys just use irregular sizes to maintain "exclusivity "  well 20 and 30 + years ago that counted because the  tools were especially uncommon .

for most of us these days its just a pain, there seems to be no reason to use rare tools when the mechanical advantage  is not proven for the application

funnily enough torx took another deviation with a pin in the centre , for security application purposes ...giggles

fortunately these days we have the opportunity to see inexpensive tools available for such things . and the internet to explore the answers ?

heres a link to some jis screw comment and information ...for a start

Pozidriv was developed in response to the need for reliable screw heads that could be power driven (Phillips heads have the tendency to strip under torque due to the angle of their drive face). That’s why you don’t see too many Pozidriv screw drivers because they were never meant to be driven by hand. I bought a Stanley Pozidriv screwdriver back in the late 80s. It has a grey handle. They only made one size and they were hard to come by. Lots of Pozidriv bits around tho.

The cruciform screw head with the extra square bit in the middle is actually a Supadriv which is very close to design and compatible with the Pozidriv.

There is also the pitlock, which doesn't have much application except to increase your chances of having the wheels and seat on your bicycle still there after you return from parking it. Laughing

well back on subject... perhaps
regarding the ignition switch
.
I'm thinking there is little reason not to consider adding a relay into the electrics box
heres my reason for suggesting this

like we do for headlights and big load thingys ...to relieve the current travelling through them  ...well, now quite ageing connectors and switches
wouldn't it be an advantage to move the switching device way back to where the conductors and connectors are somewhat protected ?
my thoughts are to interrupt the return from the ignition switch to the loom with a substantial relay ./
this would remove some voltage drop ...and more importantly relieve the switching currents from the master ignition switch ? .

down sides would be just a few tens of milliamps extra current whilst active

upsides ..1>the protection of the contacts of the switch as now its only just turning on a relay current

2> gives a great antitheft location for activation of the electrical system via some form of proximity, swipe . rfid card reader, rf radio remote  etc  which could control the relay

3 > non documented electrical interruption device ..that might baffle some potential thieves for ever.

4> the ability to remotely locate the switch from the extent of the cable length

the night light  parking feature should and could remain the same and unaffected  as it doesn't really have a  big load across the switch in current
terms ..maybe a few watts ? but not really significant

food for thought at least ...and will be implemented on my next build ....who knows what will be happening with all the stuff I learned from this great resource in "the forum "
