No we don't have a drought, but this is something something specific to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Between high and low tide, the Fundy bay fills and empties of its 100 billion tonnes of water, creating the highest tides in the world. The tide can reach 16 meters (53ft). The area where this picture was taken is not where they have the highest tide, but its already impressive. (at least 8-10 meters)
Just look at the size of the bikes on the wharf or the size of the people walking on the back of the boat.

Impressive and Tidal power stations?

It would be to ecologic. There is only a very small one.
A lot of marine life leaves in the Fundy bay (lots of whales) and the ecologist are opposed to any industrial project interfering with the marine life.
We are better to kill it slowly with the CO2 rejected in the atmosphere by our coal generated electrical power. The utility company just applied to the government to build a power plant burning.... wood. This project gets a lot of opposition from the general public.

Funny they are trying to get a wood fired power station down here. Carbon Neutral of course.
