2 quick question -
1) does the plug on the back simply pull off, or is there a hidden clip, I don't want to break it.
2) Is there an easy way to check the output, mine is not charging the battery, and ignition lamp on dash stays on, even when reved

1) Pull on it while shaking it back and forth. No secret clip.

2) The lamp in the cluster tells you it's not working.

Probably just the regulator. They're only around £20 in the UK.

+1 on the regulator.  I had to replace mine because it wasn't charging and barely keeping the bike's voltage high enough to keep the engine running.  The brushes do wear out as well.
