Hi everyone, I’m new to motorcycles, but just purchased a K100 and a k1100 from a biker friend. Both are close to running and although I have worked on smaller cycles, I’m looking forward to searching these forums to get insights into these bikes.

You can find details on them using a VIN decoder.

You can find the VIN either on the title or it is stamped into the frame above the right peg plate.

Here's links to a couple of VIN decoders:

http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

https://www.mdecoder.com/

US bikes are usually built in the later months of the prior year.  For example a K1100LT built in October of 1992 will be a model year 1993 bike.

If it's an 84 then it's not a US bike.  K100s weren't sold in the US until model year 85.

What are the last seven digits of the VIN?

A November 1984 build date makes it a model year 1985 K100RS.  Yours was the 1750th 1985 K100RS built for the US market.
