Hello,

I'm the new owner of a 1985 K100RS with 23k miles. I also have other bikes (1972 Norton Commando custom by Kenny Dreer, a 1970 Triumph T120 Bonneville, 1976 Honda CB750, 2006 Ducati Supersport 800, 2013 Honda CB1100).

I am doing a light restoration of a very well maintained bike. I rode it home about 50 miles after the purchase and stripped it down for a repaint in OEM colour Madison Silver.

While the fairing is out for repaint, I have been polishing the exhaust, powder coating the handle bars, exhaust cover, and bracket for the engine spoiler which I am adding. Can anyone tell me the routing of the brake light switch cable, I have replaced the switch but neglected to photograph the routing of the cable.

Welcome from Ireland, I had to check details of your Norton a very interesting machine. .

I had 3 x850's at one point and also a 1969 T120. If I had only kept them but the reliability of the K's is what moved me to them.

Hopefully someone else can answer your query.

Jeez, isn't it a small world.

I had to check out the norton, so I copied and pasted the full name, including Kenny Deer.

I landed on a site called Bike-urious. They had a link to T-shirts. I naturally wanted one  (Are you Bike-urious?)

It showed pictures of people wearing them, and what do I find......

Cannot anyone tell me the routing of the brake light switch harness? If I route over the foot peg plate, it looks exposed and non factory. I know it ends up in the two pin connector visible in the middle, right side but would love to know for sure how it gets there.

Thanks

It goes behind the plate, but most important make sure it does not get trapped as you tighten the footrest hanger plate. Also important, screw the switch into place before you route the cable. If you don't you end up with a twist in it that helps it to self destruct in time. It doesn't need much more than hand tight.

There are 4 of those on that RS, front brake is same [again, screw them in before routing the cable], also the clutch switch and the choke light. Clutch one is essential for starting, unless you have your green neutral light on. Thing is, the neutral light depends on the gear position switch....its behind the swing arm so jf it goes faulty and they do, you cant start unless there is a working clutch switch.

For riding comfort on the feet, change the footrest rubbers for new ones, they are nice and soft.

Foot peg rubbers seem new to me, nice and soft. Just got a handy 1200 lift yesterday which will lift the bike 40” so looking forward to easy access for the brake light harness.

Thanks again.

Welkome to the forum. If you're introducing yourself and also ask a question please don't mind if it doesn't get answered straight away as everyone has a gaggle and a sip and goes off on tangents. Besides, this is the Member's Intro section and you can ask a detail question in the appropriate forum section such as Electrical Troubleshooting or some such later on.

I used to sell Kenny random Suzuki clutch pieces, from a shop in Portland Oregon, which he was using for the prototype Norton that became the 961 which, well, later became the UK-built Norton which have now gone bust (again), only to be picked up by TVS. What a tangled web is this little motorcycle world.

Still more Kenny Dreer Nortons

Hi there and thank you for accepting me into your community. I own two K75 bikes. One is a project bike that I’m currently stripping with the plan to rebuild as an RT. The second bike is a custom that is currently suffering from a starter relay issue after an electrical fire. I guess it’s good that it’s currently too cold wet and windy to ride here on the south coast. 😊

Welkome to the forum, DrNocky. It's generally understood that you'd make an introduction of your own in the Member's Introduction section of the forum (the second tab, see above), rather than simply adding on a hello to the end of someone else's intro.
