Hi Everybody, happy to be accepted and be part of this forum.
I am located in Zurich, Switzerland and just started my BMW project. I have a BMW K 100 RS from 1989 (with an ABS...), with around 80'000km on it. I rode it for a year before starting the project (In my opinion always a good start, to first ride it after you bought it as a second/third hand to check if there are any major issues to be aware of before investing in a project).
I am doing this project in a garage, specialized for BMW classics, rented a spot to work, where I have access to all the necessary tools and from time to time booked workshops with the mechanic to work on "difficult" topics. It's not the cheapest option to go with, but as I am a total beginner I am happy to be able to rely on some experienced help.
I started 2 weeks ago and currently stripped the whole bike, freed the engine (air box; throttle body, etc.) to start clean all the parts, replace old hoses, etc.
In the next weeks (after cleaning), I would like to open the engine as well, check everything, and then I plan to start put everything together.
To be honest I m most scared of the whole wiring diagrams and figuring out the installation of m.unit, BEP 3.0, etc. etc. I have no Idea about that stuff, but the mechanic should be of big help.
What I plan to change/replace:
- strip the body - done
- new seat
- new lights/front
- new buttons
- new color tank, front fenders etc.
- adjust front fenders
- replace back fender completely - done
- replacing battery to a Gel battery (loose some unnecessary weight!) - done
- etc. etc.
Looking forward to use the amount of knowledge in this forum and happy to help where I can.
