Hi I'm Chris. I've just bought a K100 that has already had "some" work done on it. I'll be doing quite a bit more over the next 12-24 months and a place to come and get some much needed answers from people who have been there, seen it and done it... is going be invaluable.

As a start of the informaion flow, be aware that some changes were made where certain 1985 parts are not interchangeable with 1986, 1987 parts.

Having various K bikes from 83 to 97 a quick clue is if your K has the pillion grab handles bolted to the seat, petrol tank bolted at the rear and 2 fuel lights on the clocks, orange 7 litre and red 4 litre. These are early up to 85.

Single 5 litre fuel light, grab handles part of the rear moulding, these are the later 85 on.

Lots of other differences and just to annoy you, very early are different again in minor but tricky matters, 83 and early 84 have push button fuel caps, the apparently identical brake calipers are different  from later 84 and you need R bike parts for them, My 83 and 84 K are different.
