As per Martin . .  in the hunt for new tyres for my old girl.    Has anyone ever had/used Metzeler Sportec Klassik   If so how would you rate them ?

I've used a Klassik on the rear, it was alright but short lived and I've had better. Hope this post isn't too late for you!

I wrote a review on my blog here, 5814 miles was all I got out of it!

See sig? You wouldn't believe I only got 4000 miles out of the rear Roadrider on the Bullet. Yes, that really is a four followed by three zeroes. Unbelievable. I might have been happy with 5814 Sad

Oh - and welcome to the SCC (Screw Collectors Club). I also have a fully-paid-up membership of the NCC (Nail Collectors Club, not the other one). Up until last year, I hadn't run a rear tyre to the limit in over a decade due to the aforesaid club memberships. I just don't trust plugged tyres.

I use Sportec Klassiks. They give me roughly the same mileage as Snod has gotten; however, one third to one half of my riding is done on graded gravel roads of varying quality. The Klassiks perform well on wet pavement and it seems their sipe pattern improves stability on gravel, too. The price is reasonable at some online dealers. The only other tires I might consider are the Shinko Tour Masters. They've gotten good reviews from riders I respect but I'm getting along ok with the Sportecs so I'll probably stick with them.

Dai view the video on Motopressor tool use it converts a tyre string repair into a mushroom plug. Whenever I had to use a standard repair I would have it repaired by a tyre shop with a mushroom plug. A lot of tyre repair places will no longer do repairs citing liability concerns.  https://rockycreekdesigns.com.au/products/motopressor-puncture-repair-tool

Hard bit is finding a screw in a tyre.....riding 30 miles to a bike shop and being handed not 1 but 3 screws after it has been repaired on a Saturday. The shop didnt have a tyre to fit.

Just ordered a new set from RevZilla, Dunlop D404. I had been riding on the tires that came with the bike - not smart as the machine had sat in my garage nearly 10 years.

Rationale for the choice is that I'm not a peg scraper anymore if ever and I've had good luck with Dunlops with regard to tire wear. I generally like to get 10K miles. Price of these (shipping included) was
USD $92.51/rear
USD $74.05/front.

Thought the charges for mount and balance a bit pricey $50/wheel (special) at local shops $40/wheel at my friends place with me supplying labor and his tools.  But everything seems pricey now.

Be careful on wet roads with the 404s, had then on a 100rt for a bit and they scared the hell out of me.

The average mileage I reach with my tyres is 3000 km. Not miles, kilometers. Min 270 km, max 7000km.
According to a total of 20000 to 80000 km per year, it gave me in more than 30 years of practice a good sample of any manufacturer. Today I change a tyre every month, on average. That's the price to pay living in a place where there's no straight roads.
My conclusion is that there is no bad tyre available today, any will be at a level of performance that you'll never be able to approach on road, furthermore on a K100.
Buy the cheaper ones.

Well, some were born to be peg scrapers. I did look into Shinko's and several other brands. Seemed like every one I looked into I could get a rear or a front but not a pair. The Dunlop I've used before and came to no harm. Though I agree with caveman I should drive carefully in the rain. Which is always good advice. Smile
