On my "new" 86 K100RS, the PO had gutted the fairing. I am trying to assemble all the inner panels to restore it all. I have sourced the 2 knee panels and brackets, and the trim panels on either side of the windshield. I am looking for the center and 2 fillers that fit in front of the instrument cluster. On eBay I see what looks like 2 types of center pieces, one that has minimal cutout

and the other that has what looks lie a much larger cutout.

Can anyone tell me which one fits my '86 RS?

The one with the cutout is the same as what I have on my 16valve RS, so I think it is a later model.  The other is for the early models although I suspect either will work on your bike and the one with the cutout will be easier to install.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear it's not some added layer of panel that I have to source. I'm also trying to figure out the panels that go under between the forks in the lower fairing. It looks like there are 2 of them, one of which is attached to the section in front of the radiator, but is there another that fits between the forks and upper fairing?

There's two versions of the "under panel" (my name for it) that will work. This later one is for the later K100RS4V and K1100RS but will work fine on an 86.

The radiator fairing piece I have looks like it would attach to the "Y" shaped piece in the middle of the "under panel" I linked to. Mine looks like this

Some early RS/RT came with fork gaskets that fit in those "U"s but I think they're pretty worthless and wouldn't bother.

Part 46631450620

Max BMW shows them still available at $35 each.(Max BMW has no tax and free shipping.) If you want those then I'd get new ones because 35 year old rubber is 35 year old rubber.

Also don't assume that eBay prices are the best on the black plastic inner fairing pieces. Some ebay sellers charge more for some of those parts than they cost new from BMW.

The reason for putting the fairing back together is for wind protection, which is why I'm going with a Sport Tour bike i the first place. But I had those boots on the forks of my R100RS.  Not sure how much they added to the wind protection, all they did was cause more steering effort.

I was under the impression that those boots were primarily for colder temps as they block air. I don't use mine. I have the air inlet scoops/deflectors instead which redirects air up in front of the fuel tank. If you want to install those boots without removing the forks you'd have to cut through them, unless of course you get a used set and the previous owner has already done that.

My 90 K75RT had the scoops. Not sure if they actually did anything worthwhile though. They certainly don't reduce thigh burn.
