After 7 years of faithful service a recent ride into NSW saw my bucket flaps demise.  18 K of ruts and a mixture of large gravel (small rocks) and fine gravel ridges battered it into submission. It did however do its job with no damage to the belly pan. Just after the torture test it bent up and there was a significant split in it. So I decided to upgrade it to a $4.50 Bunnings bucket and they did however still have the cheaper bucket but now priced at 99c. The difference is the old bucket is .75 mm thick the new bucket 1.85 mm thick. I used the old one as a pattern and cut it out with shears and you still get 5 flaps per bucket and a shallow bowl.

They come in various colours so you can even match the colour of your bike. With the left overs you can make more mudflaps, a drain bucket with disc shield for yours forks or it makes a nifty helmet in hail storms. The humble bucket is definitely under rated and has a multitude of uses.
