Welcome!  While the K100 is a great touring bike, I would suggest keeping an eye out for a K75RT as well.

The K75 platform is every bit as good as the bigger brothers, and it's smoother running as a bonus.  It will happily do 85mph all day(for 800+ mile days) and only requires downshifting on steeper uphill grades.

My K75RT has hauled my azz through 42 states, across Canada as far as the Rockies(the Provincial Police wouldn't let me through them because of a blizzard) and several Iron Butt runs including a Butt Burner Gold.  She's been around the Great Lakes, to the bottom of Death Valley and the top of Pike's Peak and never skipped a beat.  She will run 100+ for as long as you want(back roads in western Kansas and the Canadian Plains).

Both bikes and their big brother the K1100LT are excellent touring bikes.

...And the 75 uses one less spark plug when you do a tune up!!!

Thanks! I've been looking at the K75 as well. Most I've found so far are in pretty bad condition. Too many owners, no maintenance records, etc. Only reason I lean towards the K100 is because that's what was sitting in the garage for a chunk of my childhood. But I'm not opposed!

I grew up with it around and being used daily. Always loved seeing it sitting there decked out with the lights and bags. 30k miles year after year, so I know they get the job done.

The higher mileage is a strange switch to see from the sportbikes (only ever bought at sub 10k miles), but I know these will last forever if you take care of them. Gf is tired of tiny seats and is demanding something comfy...ha!

Will probably have to do an iron butt to get one home, so that should be fun!

I'm partial to K75s (I have six of them) but I'd go K100 if you plan on two-upping.
